Pancakes (A Renora Fanfiction)

Nora: Finally

"I know, and I'm excited, but...I don't know. Something tells me that when Blake shows up and sees my sister...it's not going to be as great as I think."

Nora backed away from the closed door, feeling weird for eavesdropping. Ruby and Jaune had been in there talking for a long time, and she was getting impatient.

Finally, she left and walked out to the inn's second floor balcony. She stood there for quite some time, staring out at the gorgeous and relaxed Haven Academy.

"I see you stopped listening in." A familiar voice sounded behind her, clearly amused.

Nora spun around, relaxing when she saw Ren standing in the doorway, smiling.

"We both know what they're talking about. Why don't they just talk with us?"

Ren joined her at the railing, his hand resting on her shoulder for a moment. "That's not what's bothering you."

She looked up at him, shock weaving its way into her expression. "How do you..." She sighed, realizing he was right. "I just...what's going to happen when Team RWBY gets back together? What's going to happen to our team?"

He sighed, the same thing obviously on his mind. "No one knows. That's really up to Jaune at this point, you know that."

Nora's hand balled into a fist on the balcony's railing. "I...ugh." She stiffened as Ren gently straightened out her hand and placed his on top.

"You're still not used to making decisions as a team, are you?" It was like he was in her head.

"No, of course not. Back at Beacon..." Her voice cracked, but she recovered for the sake of the sentence. "I always went with the flow. Now..."

She rolled her eyes in an effort to dispel the tears threatening her. "I don't know. I'll probably end up doing that again."

He was silent for a moment, soaking that in, then spoke. "Jaune will understand. He's the closest thing to family we have, Nora. He won't break that up."

Nora buried her head in his chest, but she was smiling. "Thank you. I'll be okay."

He hugged her for a second before she pulled back. "Of course you will."

She giggled, looking over his shoulder at the doorway. "Think they're done yet?"

Ren sighed. "I hope so. You're going to end up walking right in there and joining the conversation if they're not done."

"Yep!" She walked to the doorway, peering around the frame to their room. Ruby was standing out in the hall, and the door was wide open.

Nora backed up and clapped her hands together happily. "They're done! Let's go take our room back!"

She grabbed Ren's hand and skipped out the door towards their room. Jaune was laying on his bed, staring at the ceiling, and he looked over to see them holding hands in the middle of the room.

His eyes widened, and Nora inhaled sharply and pulled her hand out of Ren's. Her partner looked at her inquisitively, then saw Jaune's expression.

"Hi, Jaune!" Nora tried to distract him. "Is Ruby okay?"

It didn't work. Jaune sat up with a smirk on his face. "She'll be fine. Ren, did Nora drag you in here, or..."

Nora felt her face heat up, and Ren looked equally uncomfortable. "Uh..."

"You didn't see me drag him in here? Really, Jaune, you were so caught up in staring at the wall that you didn't even notice your teammates? Rude."

Nora managed to stop blushing when Jaune looked at her again. That amused look wouldn't go away. "All right, I'll stop questioning it."

He laid back down and turned onto his side, but Nora saw sadness flash across his face, and she caught Ren's eye.

He nodded, crossing over to his own bed and laying down as well. Nora took over, as usual, bouncing on the bed as if nothing had happened. "So, Jaune, we were thinking of going out to explore Mistral tomorrow, as a team."

Jaune rolled over, a smile appearing again. "Sounds good. We can get a tourist pamphlet from the lobby, right?"

Nora stopped bouncing and reached over to her backpack, bringing out a pamphlet and waving it in the air triumphantly. "Got it! This is going to be so much fun!"

She froze. "Ooh! I have to go tell Ruby! I'll be right back!"

Before she left, she handed the pamphlet to Ren with a huge smile. "You guys start deciding what we want to do!"

Nora flew out the door towards Ruby's room, and she heard Ren chuckling as he looked it over.
