Pancakes (A Renora Fanfiction)

Ren: Troubled

Jaune stood in the doorway, his eyes on Weiss and a faraway expression on his face. The expression evidently worried Nora, because her hand found Ren's whenever it did when she was nervous.

Ren squeezed her hand, seeing Weiss had the same look on her face directed at Jaune. The tension between them was extremely apparent.

Ruby was full of energy now, grinning madly as she looked between her two teammates. "This is amazing! We have so much to catch up on!"

Weiss tore her eyes away from Jaune, a guilty look on her face masked by a smile. "Yes, we do."

Nora let go of Ren's hand suddenly, placing her hand on Jaune's shoulder instead. "Hey, Jaune."

Their leader sighed, looking from Weiss to his team. "Ruby, why don't you three catch up? We can finish dinner."

Ruby nodded so fast Ren was surprised her head was still attached. "Yeah, I don't think I was helping much anyway."

Nora laughed. "Don't worry, neither was I. Have fun!"

Before the three of them could leave, Qrow spoke up from the entrance. "I'm leaving soon as well, so I'll see you kids later."

He took a long drink, and Yang rolled her eyes. "All right. Feel free to leave any time, we'll be here."

There was a slight edge to her words, which clearly caught Qrow off guard, but he shook it off. "All right."

He left, and Weiss left almost as fast, followed by the rest of her team. Jaune clenched his fists, a sad look on his face. "Well, Ruby has her team back."

Nora's hand trembled on his shoulder, a sad look crossing her face as well. "Jaune... aren't you happy?"

"Of course I am. How couldn't I be happy? The girl I had a crush on is back."

There was almost tangible bitterness in the last sentence, and Nora visibly flinched, pulling her hand back. "I..."

Ren stepped forward, placing a hand on Nora's shoulder. "We both know what you're thinking, but there's no use feeling guilty over the past."

Nora sighed. "Especially not when team RWBY reuniting is something we've all been looking forward to, right?"

Jaune nodded. "I didn't mean to snap at you. I just...can't face Weiss when I was too dense to see..."

"Jaune..." Nora was shaking, but a smile crept onto her face. "Their arrival is good for both teams. Right now we just have to be happy for Ruby..."

She trailed off, taking a deep breath. Jaune exchanged a look with Ren, and the two of them pulled her into a hug.

Jaune spoke, his voice quiet and calm. "Nora, I know that you're nervous about Blake joining us. Nothing's going to happen to our team if she does."

She nodded. "Okay. I just...you're both the only family I have, and..."

They pulled back, and Ren smiled at his partner. "We should finish dinner. The three of them will be back any time now."

The remainder of the food took little to no time to cook, and despite Nora eating most of the ingredients, they finished in no time.

Ruby appeared in the doorway, looking concerned. "Hey, is everything okay? Jaune?"

He nodded. "I will be."

The younger Huntress smiled. "Okay, good! Dinner looks great, you guys!"

Nora grinned, hands on her hips. "I tried my best."

Ren raised his eyebrow skeptically, and she giggled. "Aw, who am I kidding. Ren's the cook here."

All four of them laughed, and Ruby withdrew into the dining room with a smile.
