Heine slowly unwrapped the bandages. He frowned as the scars that lined his knuckles came into sight. Although not the only scars on his hands, these were harsh. It was no wonder why Victor was so upset over it. He knew the scars would be long term. The need for bandages said that.
Heine just wasn't thinking about that. He wasn't thinking about the long term, just the need to let the frustration with himself out. Now a long scar painted his knuckles and a few spread across his fingers. They weren't fully healed quite yet.
Idiot. He thought to himself. He sure felt like an idiot for forgetting his own well being. He huffed in frustration at himself.
He went to grab the fresh bandages on his desk. Just as he did, a knock on his door sounded. Almost like an alarm with how quiet the night was. He could only wonder who would be awake so late at night as he walked to the door. Before he could even open it, whoever knocked spoke up.
"Ma-P-Professor? Are you up?" Bruno. He opened the door to find the brunette prince looking quite nervous. "Oh, you are..." Overlooking those words and how they sounded almost disappointed, Heine studied the teen. Trying to get a him as to why he was knocking for Heine at this hour. He found all but explaination in the prince's nervious face.
"Why are you up at this hour?"
"I couldn't sleep." Bruno rushed his answer, not daring to look at Heine. "...I have another question that has been stuck in my head."
"Come in then." Heine moved to let Bruno in. As Bruno stepped in, Heine wondered to himself what the question could possibly be. Most likely something similar to the one from earlier.
What is my father to you?
Thinking about it now, Heine wished he could give a much more honest answer. What is Victor to him? The world. No, much more than that. Nothing could really describe what Victor was to him.
"Are your hands alright?" Bruno asked. Heine blinked, remembering about his hands. He quickly but quietly shut the door.
"Yes." He turned around. "Now, what was your question?" He walked over to to his desk.
"Well..." Heine listened as he wrapped the clean bandages on his hand. "I was thinking about your answer to my question." He stopped, wondering where Bruno was going with this. "I couldn't really understand what you meant by it."
"Do you want me to explain?"
"No," Bruno shook his head. "I know you won't. I want to ask you if you could tell me why you gave such a vague answer." Heine continued his task once again, staying silent in the moment it took him to finish. He sighed.
"There is much you have to learn, your highness. Just as a king keeps secrets, others do as well. It is something you must respect unless it directly harms you." He stretched his hand to get used to the clean bandages.
"So he was telling the truth." Bruno muttered.
"What?" Heine turned around and looked at the prince.
"Nothing." Bruno fixed his glasses. "Thank you for your time Ma-Professor."
