X.
"Hey," the girl recovered first. "I didn't think we'd bump into you here."

"Yeah," Mikhail said, his mood sour. I was already having an idea as to who this girl is.

"You know Gerald," she said to Mikhail, introducing the guy she's with. "Ger, this is Mikhail, an old friend."

Then it dawned on me that she could be that rumored ex Aliah was talking about. That she could be that Pia.

The Pia he went to Tokyo with and had fun with. The Pia that made me don't want to go to Tokyo anymore.

Audhobillahi minna shaitaanirajim. (I seek refuge in Allah from the satan and his evil doings.)

I saw Mikhail's face twisted on what it looked like annoyance. The girl looked at me expectantly as if she's waiting for my introduction. I was ready to tell her I'm his sister but then he beat me to it.

"This is Kenzie, my girlfriend." There was venom in those words. "Ken, this is Pia, an old friend."

Why do I hate that term now? Is it the new euphemism for ex-partners? Just old friends?

Couldn't my mood get any more ruined?

The girl, Pia, seemed uncomfortable all of a sudden. Gerald looked like he was put in an awkward situation.

"Oh, pretty...nice to meet you," Pia told me, recovering quickly at the slight shock.

I gave her a forced smile. May Allah forgive me for giving a forced smile. I just can't help it.

"Same." That was me. That was all I could say.

"It's getting late, we should go," said Mikhail. "Nice running into you here," he said to Pia then motioned for me to get going.

There was dead air when we got inside the car. I could tell he was relieved he got past that meeting but still annoyed that he got caught in such a meeting.

I, on the other hand, was not at all in a good mood.

"Please don't say that again if you don't mean it," I said.

"What?" He asked, casting an annoyed look at me.

"Saying I was your girlfriend when I wasn't," I said.

His mouth opened to say something but stopped. Then, continued anyway. "So you want me now to announce you're my wife? I just upped you from sister to girlfriend."

I leaned on the headrest and shut my eyes for a good second for a comeback. "It doesn't make it alright at all. You used me, we both knew that," I said.

"Yeah, so what? It was the truth anyway," he said. "You're my wife...my girlfriend...who cares? You're mine to take."

"That would have been so good to hear in another time," I said, not matching his raising tone. "But I did not become anyone's girlfriend in the past just so you could do that to me. Just so you could treat me like I was a rebound or something."

"That is so shallow," he said. "It's just a label."

"It would have been better if you had introduced me as your call girl, don't you think?" I countered. We stared each other in thick silence. After a while, nobody still spoke. "Just drive us home. I'm tired. Or better yet, just drop me at my sister's place," I said. "I can't do this right now." I could feel tears stinging my eyes. "Can I go stay at my sister's?" I asked him with tears brimming in my eyes.

He sighed and started reversing out of the parking lot.

My sister's place wasn't that far so we reached the place in no time. "Drive safe, okay?" I reminded before I got out.

"Ken, I'm sorry," he blurted out, stopping me. "My mind just got clouded when I saw them."

I smiled at him painfully. "I know. I'll just give you space tonight," I said.

"Just...don't cry, for god's sake. You're making me the evil person here," he said. "I'm sorry, okay?"

I nodded and shut the door. "Text me when you get home so I won't worry or anything," I told him and got inside the tower.

So much for progressing.
