42. Friendship Or Betrayal?

"RAJEEV, WOULD YOU like to drink tea or coffee?", Shweta asked breaking the eerie silence that had surrounded the house.

"Coffee will be great, bhabhi", Rajeev said smiling as he sat on the couch.

Manish sat on the opposite sofa trying to compose himself.

"Raj, how are you in Mumbai?", Manish asked trying to make a conversation.

"I had come here for my business meeting but why on the earth did you shift to Mumbai?", Rajeev asked confused.

"Because of my daughter. She was pregnant so...", Manish trailed as his heart clenched remembering that cruel day which took away his grandchild from him.

"First daughter or the second one?", Rajeev asked.

"Second one", Manish said.

"What is her name?", Rajeev asked.

"Eldest is Aanchal then Forum and lastly Aarav", Manish said.

Rajeev couldn't help but feel intrigued hearing Aarav's name but then again there were so many Aarav in the world. His son in law might be some other Aarav but how he wished that his daughter would have been married to his best friend's son.

"They are nice names and what about your grandchildren? I want to know their names too! After all you got promoted from being a father to a grandfather", Rajeev said.

"Yash is the only one. Forum had a miscarriage and now she has lost the ability to conceive", Manish whispered softly.

"I am sorry for your loss, Mani. I didn't know..."

"It's okay, Raj. It's not like it happened because of you", Manish said smiling sadly.

"Yeah but she can always adopt a child if she really wants one or nowadays surrogation option is also available", Rajeev suggested.

"I don't think surrogation will be right because if the surrogate gets attached to the baby then you know the rest... As for adoption, I think it will be more better and less risky", Manish said.

"I know certain orphanages from where you can adopt a baby. I will send you the details just let me know when you want to visit the orphanages", Rajeev said.

"You haven't changed a bit. You're still the helpful guy who I met in school who would do everything to help others", Manish said smiling softly.

"It's good to know that you think I haven't changed but to be honest I have changed a lot especially after the false information I got about Gauri", Rajeev said as his eyes darkened remembering that his Gauri was still alive.

"What do you mean by fake news?", Manish asked as heart thumped loudly in his ribs.

"Gauri is...."

"Rajeev, your coffee", Shweta said interrupting as she served coffee to him and tea to Manish and herself.

Rajeev was drinking his coffee, when his phone rang.

"Excuse me, I need to take this call", he said glancing at the caller id.

"It's okay, Raj. The balcony is there you can go and have your privacy", Manish said.

"Thanks Mani", Rajeev said placing his coffee mug on the table as he walked towards the balcony.

As soon as Rajeev was out of earshot, Shweta asked, "Do you think he knows?"

"I don't know, Shweta but I have a feeling he knows", Manish said rubbing his face.
