Sunlight filled the room and I pulled my blanket over my face, groaning. "Y/n, you have to get up," Patrick said, ripping the blanket off of me. I sighed and sat up, rubbing my eyes. "Where's Laxus?" I asked, yawning.
"He said he was going to take a walk. Don't worry about him," Patrick said. He grabbed my arm and pulled me out of my bed. I groaned and let him drag me downstairs.
"Do we need more pineapple? We could run to the store to get some," I said. Patrick perked up. "Yes! Wait, why are you so eager to go outside? You hate civilization," he said. I shrugged. "I had a flashback while I was sleeping. I guess I just want to look for Jackson in a subtle way," I said. Patrick nodded and stayed silent, knowing that my past is a really sensitive topic.
I walked out the door, Patrick sitting on my head.
The walk through the streets was silent as I was too busy looking for my older brother. Suddenly, a familiar voice was in earshot.
"What did you say about me?"
I sighed and walked over to where the voice came from, seeing the tall blonde. Lightning was surrounding him as he stared down a merchant, who looked terrified. Patrick shook his head and floated next to me, watching Laxus intimidate the small man.
"I d-didn't mean any h-harm, sir!"
Laxus grunted and before he could do anything, I stood in front of him, facing the merchant. "I'm sorry about him, sir. He won't harm you again," I said. I turned around and grabbed Laxus' arm, dragging him away. "What a nice young lady. They're a cute couple," I heard the man say. My face flushed and I looked down.
"Why'd you do that?" Laxus asked. "That man probably could have beat the shit out of you," I teased. He rolled his eyes. "No. Tell me why."
"You would have hurt him. He was just gossiping. Plus, you don't need people to hate you more. You might never get a chance to join Fairy Tail again," I said. "Who said I wanted to join that pathetic excuse of a guild?" Laxus said, crossing his arms. I looked up at him and saw a sad look in his eyes. "You miss them. I can see it in your eyes," I said. He didn't reply.
I looked down at my feet, watching as my converses hit the ground, making soft tapping noises.
Laxus was suddenly shoved towards me, knocking us to the ground, Laxus on top of me. My eyes widened as something was pressed onto my lips. I looked down and saw Laxus' lips were on mine as he hovered over me. "G-get off of me!" I yelled, shoving him. He suddenly realized what was happening and he quickly got off of me, his face bright red.
"S-sorry!"
"It's fine. Things happen," I muttered, looking away. "Y/n, can we go get pineapple now?" Patrick whined. I sighed. "Yeah. Let's go, Pat. You coming, Laxus?" I asked. "Uh, I'll just go back home," he said, turning around and walking back to my house. I bit my lip and turned around, walking towards a fruit cart. Patrick chuckled, making me turn to face him in confusion. "You like him."
I blushed. "It's not like that! It was an accident, you dumb cat!" I exclaimed. He chuckled. "I'm just messing with you, Y/n!" He said. I rolled my eyes and paid for the pineapple, thanking the man before leaving.
***Laxus***
I made my way down the street with a red face, thinking about what had just happened.
Why am I getting so red? It didn't mean anything! I don't like Y/n, and she doesn't like me. Tch, feelings are stupid.
***Y/n***
The day was coming to an end and Patrick was asleep in my arms as I carried pineapple. The people on the streets started to disappear in their houses and it was quiet outside, my footsteps the only thing that could be heard.
I turned a corner and a bunch of guys appeared in front of me, causing me to drop the pineapple in shock. "Hey there, pretty lady," one of the men said, licking his lips. An expression of disgust made its way onto my face. "Seriously, are all men pigs?" I asked myself. I set Patrick on the ground and got in a fighting stance. "Hah! You really think a lady as fragile as you could fight warriors like us?" Another man said. "Warriors? I don't see any. All I see are lowlife pigs."
That must have set them on edge, because they charged at me all at once. "This is pathetic," I sighed, raising my hand. Vines emerged from the ground and wrapped themselves around the men's feet, lifting them into the air.
"Ugh! Are you sure they're even here?! We've been looking for hours and we haven't seen these guys!" A voice yelled. A couple of people came into view, all having the Fairy Tail mark stamped onto their skin. "Aren't there the guys we have to turn in?" A blue cat asked.
A sudden anger filled my body. "Oh, it's the Fairies," I growled. "Woah, what's your problem, lady?" The boy with pink hair asked. "Fairy Tail is supposed to revolve around friendship and family, right? Then why is it you kicked Laxus out without remorse?" I asked. My vines tightened around the men's ankles, causing them to howl in pain.
"One, how do you know about that? And two, he tried to kill us!" The blonde yelled. "Those Phantom Lord kids tried to kill you but you let them join," I pointed out.
"Y/n, that's enough," someone said. I turned around and saw Laxus, giving the Fairies a sad and angry look. "How is it enough?! Are you not angry about this?! You were kicked out of your guild! Your family!" I exclaimed. The vines tightened even more.
"What's going on?" Patrick asked, rubbing his eyes. He picked up the pineapple and floated next to me.
Laxus grabbed my arm and dragged me away, causing the vines to drop the men on the ground. Once we were out of earshot, Laxus started talking.
"Why'd you do that?"
"What do you mean?"
"You stood up for me. Why?"
"I guess it's just because I never had a real shot of getting to love my family. I just don't want you to suffer the way I did."
