Chapter one
Something was not quite right with in the universe he could feel it as he filed mentally through the sands of time taking an account every name every individual lifeline carefully he swept one single marble finger over each hourglass as if to touch their lives in some strange and unique way. He had a Grace that was often uncredited for as strange and as terrifying as he could be he had a gentleness to him a hidden devotion toward mankind. Though he had no true passions no need for forbidden and fleshly Pleasures he had a secret that even he did not even know himself until she arrived until Madeline. Yes he had secret generosities, a few soft spots for orphaned children and homeless street cats always seemed to warm up to him and let him scratch them behind the ears ever so slightly. They weren't judgmental even though they could see him quite plainly they didn't care whether he was good-looking not as long as he gave them a treat and a mean belly rub and he admired cats especially for their Simplicity he was of course appalled at the ever-increasing abandonment of such simple creatures. Who wouldn't want a cat? Cats pretty much took care of themselves most of the time so all one had to do was feed them and give them a warm lap to sleep on ,not that he could provide that of course. That wasn't so hard was it? Somehow humans had become so lazy and so indifferent to everybody else's suffering it had become quite a problems especially for cats. The cats were not the main concern he had on his mind on that day. Then Albert mentioned the occurrence in the library it was a girl he had said however Albert's description of her was Far Beyond vague and inaccurate. In Fact he couldn't seem to tell him anything even relatively identifiable about her appearance. He just rambled on about how odd it was that she had been there standing so casually in the middle of the library. "She must have been snooping about" he had to add.
"Nonsense Albert no one in all the disc would invade my home just to sneak into my library think about it Albert. Think long and hard. When is the last time a burglar has come to this house?"
Indeed he did think long and hard no matter how he twitched his mouth and scratched his chin he could not come up with any logical answer except no.
"Precisely, very good Albert. Do you know why?"
"Why what?"
"Do you know why no one has ever attempted at breaking and entering?"
"They Don't Have directions?" he cluelessly concluded.
"Do you seriously think I would provide any human with actual directions to my home?"
"Don't be Daft of course not you might as well give them a map and Mark helpless home completely unarmed right here on the emblem where your house is for the burglar to read."
"Exactly you know very well my house isn't written on any map. Even if the information were public and sent out on actual invitations you know and I know that no one would come running for that opportunity of attending the Gathering. They would probably turn in the opposite direction most likely. I have that effect on people I've noticed."
"Most likely they'd stay at home if they were given even half the chance. People are like that. Not your fault it is,of course, just in their nature running away from things they don't understand. It's really quite typical, quite sad actually ,always running all the time, never slowing down for anything or anybody, just racing through life they all are. I used to be part of that rat race but I gave all that up, came here been, here ever since."
"Do you like it here so far this new life, Albert?"
"Oh I can hardly call it new but I suppose I like the way things turned out in my life and how it didn't turn out, so yes some things don't turn out and you're all the better for it anywho what about our little burglar?"
"Well I do not believe she was a burglar Albert or a thief! I believe she most likely came here by accident!
"How in the disc do you bloody well know?!" Albert Nearly squealed in disbelief.
"I just have one of those feelings."
"Feelings will get you into trouble they will."
"Yes I know I know Albert I have some feelings of my own you know but sometimes it's worth the risk."
Albert was absolutely right, he took the risk of looking for her, this mystery girl and once he had made visual contact with her he knew she was the one Albert had spoken of even though she was not exactly a girl but at this age everything was was simply a young boy or a young girl. He knew this young girl's name as well ;her first name was Madeline and he rather like the sound of that name so he remembered it quite well.He Had brought her hourglass along the Journey just in case something happens. Yes death happened it was unavoidable it happened everyone and it wasn't like anyone had a choice. Indeed very interesting she seemed to know everything about the disc everything about him and she was most forward, Fearless even. She did not only appear Fearless he indeed felt no fear within her. Heart beats were quite even and her steady pulse wasn't racing. She was just perfectly at ease or was she? Most felt too uncomfortable, too terrified to approach him He was death, after all, So he couldn't blame them for this sort of fear had been going on for centuries so he was used to it. Now to tell you the truth she hadn't actually approached him but she had been Keen enough to see him and brave enough to point it out. Stead of screaming she spoke in a harmonious and gentle voice to him directly and she didn't Point hysterically in his Direction she just politely addressed him as one would to another equal. She was pleasant not at all unkind and she exuded a simple confidence. Clearly she possessed some simple humility as well yet she had this frankness about her person and she had this overly forward and informal honesty. She have the secretive smile that suggested she didn't tell such personal details just anyone. She had reserve and she obviously did not want everyone to know her story, the story she knew, the story she had been part of and the story she wished to escape. He challenged her and he engaged her with even more challenging inquiries and they would speak simply and casually as if conversing with death was a every day activity. I know she cannot possibly be a tourist for there hasn't been such a thing for decades and the last tours that came here well he has passed since returned to his home ages ago. She
Is indeed a stranger to these lands but I remember our glass did not present itself to me until a few moments ago a few moments ago she did not exist so perhaps this means the story she is speaking of is the one she must return to. Which means she was telling the truth she must return not only to her home but to her own world this world is a story her story but must be entirely a new one altogether a new world world a different world a world none of us are familiar with I must keep an eye on her check up every once in awhile to be interesting indeed.
