-- I feel like this chapter is really slow. Sorry it took a while to update, things have been pretty shitty for me lately. This is kind of a filler chapter but I hope you enjoy. --
On the third morning, I couldn't get Negan out of my mind. There was just something about him that I already began to like. The fact that he was there for me when Erik wasn't, really stood out. Remembering how he kissed my head still made me blush.
After eating breakfast, I went to the chicken coop to start my job for the day. It was a quiet, and cloudy morning. The smell of rain filled the air as a warning that it would start pouring any second. Not a lot of people were out... Except for Erik who was in the coop doing my job.
"Um. What are you doing here?" I asked. He had just finished gathering the eggs when he looked up at me. There were bags forming under his pain-filled eyes.
"Negan said this is one of my jobs. After this I have to go-" Erik began.
"I don't really care about what you're doing after this... I guess I have a day off though!" I laughed, cutting him off.He stayed quiet and just stared at me for a few moments. The tension between us was so thick you could cut it with a knife. "I'm sorry about last night." Erik finally spoke. I looked down at my feet, thinking about what my next words would be.
It almost felt like being Erik's girlfriend was not worth it anymore. I just didn't see the point in staying with him. Erik seemed sincere about his apology, but he would be too risky to trust. He became a new person. A cold, bitter, and heartless person. Even if I did stay, my image of him would be forever changed. I couldn't bring myself to do that.
"You probably are sorry... I get it. But honestly... I think we need a break." I said, still looking at my feet. Erik froze for a few seconds, his hands were clenched so tightly onto the egg basket that his knuckles were white. "We just need some time to think about things." I continued.
It hurt to tell him that. The only remnant of home I had left was Erik, and I was giving him up. Slowly, I turned around and saw Negan walking towards us. "Good fuckin' morning, doll! I was looking all over for your fine ass." He announced as he approached me.
"Good morning, Negan. I guess I'm not working today?" I spoke, trying to ignore that comment. Erik's eyes were beaming into my back, I could feel it.
"Yes you do, sweetheart. In fact, I wanna take you on a little adventure." He proposed, putting an arm around me. As we walked off, I glanced back at Erik who looked completely shattered. The regret faded away though. I had no remorse, just like how he didn't feel bad when he slapped me. Yeah.. No feelings there.
My mind cleared itself of all the negativity to focus on the day ahead of me. The little getaway he had planned was a nice way for me to forget about things for a while. "We're goin' on a supply run. I just wanted to take you along." Negan spoke as we headed towards a truck.
About 15 other men were loading into trucks and vans. "Why?" I asked. He shrugged. There had to be some kind of catch to this, but I didn't want to press in.
"Dwighty boy! Give my girl here a gun." Negan ordered. A man with a half-burnt face approached me and handed me a pistol. I flashed him a friendly smile as if to say thank you.
The whole ride was quiet as I gazed out the window, lost in my own thoughts. Rain had already started pouring so I just stared at the drops rolling down the glass. My eyes drifted to Negan. I studied him for a while, looking at how handsome he was.
A part of was guilty for feeling that way. Since I had just broken up with Erik, I didn't want to already start gushing over someone else. So I shifted my gaze back to the window, trying not to stare anymore.
Being brought on a supply run seemed a bit odd to me. Yes, I'm more than capable of scavenging but I just didn't expect him to bring me along.
When we arrived to an old shopping center, I went around the store having my gun ready at all times. It looked like it had already been raided of supplies by many other people. Luckily, I managed to find some medical equipment, some clothes, and a few boxes of crackers.
I walked through an aisle that held a ton of electronics and video games. It made me miss the way things were. Not too long ago, there were kids roaming these aisles searching for the game that they wanted. Now, they're all useless discs sitting in useless cases.
The sound of shuffling from the next aisle broke me from my thoughts. Immediately, I cocked my gun and gun got ready for a walker to turn the corner. But no one other than Dwight emerged from the aisle. He was standing there wide eyed. "Chill. It's just me." He laughed nervously. I lowered the gun and sighed.
"Sorry I thought you were a walker. Mind if I join you in the search?" I asked him. Being alone in the dark superstore was unsettling, so I wanted to have a friend with me. "Sure... You scared or something?" He joked.
"Whatever." I laughed. We both walked around the store, just talking how things were before the world went down. But I was still curious as to why Negan had invited me to tag along on the trip. "Can I ask you something?" I blurted.
"Sure." He replied.
"Do you have any idea why Negan wanted me to join the supply run?"
"Well, he mentioned something like he wanted to talk to you... I'm not sure what it's about but I'm surprised he hasn't yet."
"Oh..." I trailed off.Once we were done, he headed back out. We loaded the trucks and got ready to go when I felt a hand on my shoulder. "Get in the truck, darlin'. We've gotta talk."
