The next morning, I woke up all alone. Lucille was no longer leaned up against the wall so Negan must've went off to take care of business. I got up and changed into my jeans from yesterday, still keeping his shirt on. It was odd not having a job anymore, I had no clue what to do for the whole day.
After freshening up, I went out to breakfast. Being Negan's wife, I didn't have to wait in the long line for food. So I went to the front and grabbed a bowl of fresh oatmeal with blueberries in it. "There she is." A woman's voice called out behind me.
I turned around to see who it was. There were two women wearing little black dresses studying me. Having them watch me so intently made want to cringe.
One had a welcoming smile, she wasn't much older than me but the woman had a motherly vibe to her. The other girl seemed somewhat on edge. "Hi. I'm Sherry. I heard you're the newest addition to Negan's wives?" She asked.
"Yeah... My name's Arabella." I replied plainly.
"It's nice to meet you. This is Amber by the way." She pointed to the nervous blonde girl. Amber waved at me, not saying a word. "Negan said he wanted us to show you to our room.""We're sharing a room?" I asked. This definitely wasn't at all what I bargained for.
"Well, Negan is allowing you to have your own room. But he wants you with us during the day time so he can pick you if he wants." She replied.
"What do you mean by picking me?"She laughed and put a hand on my shoulder. "There's a lot you don't know. Just come with us, you can eat in the room." Sherry escorted me out of there with Amber following closely behind. She seemed miserable like she wanted to break down any second. I actually felt kind of bad for her.
We stopped at a pair of fancy French doors. Sherry opened them to a room with three other women happily chatting. They all went quiet and looked up at me. "Guys, this is Arabella... The new addition." She introduced me to all of them. A few of them gave me dirty looks which made things even more awkward.
They didn't say anything. The silence was almost unbearable but thankfully, Sherry decided to speak up. "Oh I almost forgot to tell you! Negan said that we can have a little girls day in the mess hall when everyone goes back to work. Which should be about right now. Would you like to join?" She asked.
Her eyes were hopeful. I could tell she truly wanted to be nice, and maybe even be a friend. But with the way the other women were treating me, I didn't want to be near any of them. "Um... No thank you. I think I just need some time to myself, thanks though." I replied, awkwardly staring down into my bowl of oatmeal.
The ladies all headed to the mess hall, leaving me completely alone in the luxurious room. There were beautiful leather couches and gorgeous paintings hung up on the walls. It looked like something that would be in a magazine. One thing in particular caught my eye though.
A grand piano sat in the back of the room. The closer I got to it, the more dust I saw. No one must've played it in ages.
In my old community, there was a piano in one of the shopping center stores. Whenever I wasn't helping the kids, I'd always play it and sing some tunes. Just looking at this piano made me emotional.
Taking one last look to make sure I was completely alone, I sat down to play it.
I ran my fingers from the lowest key to the highest one with a smile. The piano was so fascinating that I'd forgotten to even eat my breakfast. I began to play one of my favorite songs, "Skinny Love". Hoping that no one would hear my voice, I began to sing as well.
I never thought I had the best singing voice so I kept it on the down low.
When I was done, someone began clapping their hands behind me. "That was fuckin' beautiful, doll." No one other than Negan said. I turned to face him. Sure he complimented me, but I'd always been conscious of how I really sounded. The thought of performing for someone had always scared me.
"T-thank you... I didn't even hear you come in." I said shyly, trying to hide my red face. He chuckled and slowly came over to me.
"Well I heard a gorgeous voice out in the hall so I had to see who the hell it was. The fact that you can sing like an damn angel and play the piano, makes you 10 times hotter than you already are." He purred with a cocky smile. Saying thank you to that comment seemed a bit weird so I offered a small giggle.
"Why didn't you join the rest of the ladies today?" He asked me.
"I don't know... I guess I'm just not fitting in too well with them." I replied.Negan stared at me with an angelic expression... One that I simply could not get over. "Ugh I hate when you do that!" I laughed, hiding my face in my hands.
"Do what?"
"You know... That look!" I giggled. When I uncovered my face, he was crouching so he was leveled to where he could look me in the eyes. His face was so close to mine that I could feel his warm breath. "You like that look don't you?" He asked softly. My cheeks felt so heated from all the blushing.
Negan gently grabbed my hand and pulled me up off the little bench. "I'd like you to join me for a drink." He said. Once again, he had me in his little trance so I just couldn't resist.
As we walked to his room, we past by a man who was wearing tattered clothes. He weakly mopped the floor with slouched shoulders. When he looked up to face us, it was Erik. I looked at the floor to avoid eye contact and practically hugged Negan's arm like a toddler. He seemed to notice the way Erik was eyeing me.
"Focus on your fuckin' work." Negan ordered as we continued on down the hall.
It finally sunk in that my fear of Erik was all for nothing. He was no longer capable of harming me in any way. I belonged to Negan, and no one else. At least with him, I knew I would always be kept safe.
"What are you smiling about?" Negan asked teasingly. I didn't even realize that I had a small grin plastered on my face.
"It's nothing." I cooed, trying to hide how happy I was.
We walked into his room, closing the door behind us. "Oh come on, it's gotta be something." He said.
"I'll tell you later." I said. Finally, he surrendered. Negan poured himself some whiskey and offered me a cup. "Oh no thanks. I don't drink. I'll have some water though."
We sat on his sofa, just talking about random things. It seemed like hours had gone by. I felt so content just being there with him.
After many laughs, he changed the subject back to what I said earlier. "You never told me what you were thinking about a little bit ago." He pointed out, giving me a smirk. I looked down at my lap, hesitating before saying it. Knowing Negan, he probably wouldn't care anyways.
"I guess it dawned on me that... With Erik, I was always walking on eggshells. Towards the end he just got so cold with me. Earlier, when we passed by him I started to get scared. I was actually scared, Negan... But I realized that there's no reason to fear him anymore." I began shyly.
Somehow, I gathered up the courage to look him in the eye. "I don't have to be scared because I'm with you now."
