Evan walked back to his bedroom, his mother's words echoing in his mind. He reached the familiar room and closed the door, collapsing against it, almost instantly breaking back down in silent tears.

He cried to himself for a few minutes, and heard the front door open and close as Heidi left for the night. He was half glad that she'd left, it meant that he could cry freely without her worrying for him. The other half was scared, he was alone again, and he needed a shoulder to cry on. he took out his phone and looked through his contacts, trying to find someone.

He didn't have many contacts, because he didn't have many friends. he scrolled through by most recent, ignoring the Murphys for obvious reasons, his mother was out, he didn't really need his doctor, he and Alana weren't really close enough to talk about stuff like this. that left only one logical option. He dialled the number.

"What do you want, Hansen?"

It stung to hear the familiar voice, usually so happy, speak to him in such a bitter tone, and call him by his surname.

"Jared, look. I really need someone to come over, and everyone else is mad at me except mom, and she's at work..." he choked on his words slightly

~~~
Jared was a little taken aback at the sadness in his voice, but was still mad. Was Evan just trying to play with his emotions so he'd forgive him? "So why are you calling me? I thought I'd made it clear I was mad at you as well." he tried to keep the harshness in his voice, though it did soften a bit.
"I know, and I'm sorry... I just... you're the only friend I have that isn't based on a lie... Well, I guess now the only friend I have... I told the Murphys..."
"Wait, really? Evan... that's great!" he lost most of the harshness in his voice, too pleasantly surprised to keep up the anger
"Does that mean you'll come?" Evan's voice was hopeful, slightly happier, but Jared could tell he was still crying.
"Yeah! Oh, wait. no."
"W-what? why."
"Because I need an apology, Evan. A real one, not just a 'sorry jared I was a dick now come to my house'. I need a real, sincere apology. You really did hurt me, Evan."
~~~

Evan bit his lip "Jared... I need you here, please. I know I hurt you, but I need you to help me. I'm begging you. I really am sorry, I swear... I didn't mean what I said, and I have no excuse... I... You're the only proper friend I've ever had, Jared, and I really regret doing that to you... I have no words for how sorry I am, and if I lose you forever, I'd understand, but know I'd be heartbroken..."

He heard Jared go silent, and started sobbing slightly to himself. he knew he'd messed everything up, he always did, then Jared's voice came through

"I'll be there in five minutes. Usual knock." he said, then hung up before Evan even had a chance to thank him.

----woo little time skip---

Jared pulled up to Evan's house, parking unusually flawlessly. the walked up to the front door and tapped out the 9 note knock that he'd established with Evan long ago, so that he knew it was him and not a stranger/murderer/burglar, because anxiety.

As soon as he'd finished the knock, he heard Evan run through the house and slam the door open. Before Jared evenhad a chance to say hello, Evan hugged him tightly "thank you... thank you thank you thank you thank you for coming..."

"No prob, Bob." he smiled a little "Can we go inside, please? It's cold and I refuse to wear layers."

"Of course..." Evan's face was bright red, and his eyes were puffy, it was clear he'd been crying for ages, he let Jared inside and started guiding him to his bedroom.

Jared placed a hand on Evan's back"Ev... What's wrong? You're too upset for it to just be admitting the truth..."

Evan sighed as they reached his room, sitting oh the floor. "I really want to talk, Jared... I just, need a moment to calm down... Just... sit with me for a moment" he patted the ground next to him gently and Jared sat.
