I Didn't Realise You Were Here

The sun shone almost directly into Jared's eyes, waking him and causing him to squeeze them closed, wrapping his arms tighter around the boy who was still laying on top of him.

"You're awake." Evan's tired voice came from next to Jared's face.

Jared groaned, moving a hand to cover his eyes.

"Yeah... What happened to my glasses? I didn't take them off..."

"Right here," Evan moved slightly to grab a pair of glasses from just above Jared's head and handed them to him "I woke up in the night cuz they were poking my face. Don't know where this blanket came from, though. I mean how it got on us, obviously I know where it came from, it's my blanket. It was on my bed, but we initially bought it from a second hand store because that's where we buy most of our- "

Jared stopped him with his now free hand, he'd put on his glasses while Evan had been talking, then put a finger on the rambling boy's lips, smiling at him tiredly.

"I get it, Ev. I don't need a full backstory on your blanket, but I must admit you're pretty cute when you go on like that. Either way, I'm hungry and my back's sore from laying on the floor all night. Let's just get up and get some food, okay?"

Evan nodded, getting up and offering a hand to help Jared up, which he took gladly.

They continued holding hands as they left Evan's room in silence, though both of them were smiling giddily, each unbeknown to the other. They heard quiet talking from the living room, looking at each other, confused, they walked to the doorway, quickly dropping their hands.

In the room sat Heidi, Katherine and Maria, all talking quietly, each holding a mug.

"I didn't realise you were here hosting a morning coffee club, Heidi. I would've signed up." Jared snickered slightly, walking over to his mom when she beckoned him. She kissed his cheek gently, and he blushed, moving away from her.

"Moom..."

"What's wrong, darling? Would you rather Mama gave you a wake up kiss?" She smirked slightly, glancing over at her wife "Or perhaps... Evan?"

Jared just blushed harder, focusing on a spot on the floor.

"Kat, don't tease him..."

Heidi looked up at him, smiling.

"Did you have a nice sleep, Jared? The floor can't have been very comfortable."

Jared nodded, continuing to stare intently at the floor.

"I suppose you were cuddling for warmth?"

"KATHERINE!"

"It was just a question, Ria."

Jared bit his lip, looking up slightly, but not enough to make eye contact with any of them.

"We... I came over to play games and we got tired and we just fell asleep on the floor..."

"I called him over because I was upset, then I kinda rambled on to him and somehow it ended in us kissing and cuddling and falling asleep on my floor."

Jared turned to face Evan, not noticing he'd moved to stand beside him. Evan looked back at him, almost scared looking.

"Sorry... I just... I don't want to lie anymore... I just... Sorry..."

Jared shook his head slightly, smiling and taking Evan's hand again. They looked at each other for a moment before being interrupted by a small cough from Katherine, at which Maria sighed, taking two $20 bills from her pocket and handing one each to the other girls.
