Jared looked up at Evan, biting his lip a little, then saw the look of fear on the taller boy's face and squeezed his hand tightly, giving him a reassuring look before near dragging him through the gate.

They'd barely entered the grounds when Alana Beck was suddenly standing in front of them, as if she'd teleported. She glared up at the two of them, a hand on her hip.

"What were you guys doing last night? I know you guys probably didn't like me putting the letter online, but it had to be done! You could've at least answered my texts!"

Jared looked back at her, confused, then pulled his phone out.

"What texts? I didn't- oh." He turned on the phone to find it full of notifications.

Alana raised an eyebrow at him "You didn't what?"

"Shit, sorry... My phone was on mute... I was driving, and then I got distracted, and I didn't check my phone this morning."

Evan was now staring at his own phone, seeming completely shocked. He looked up as Jared spoke "Yeah, sorry, I... I turned off notifications for most things... I was getting, uh... A lot of really, um, mean messages... I didn't- I didn't mean t-to make it so you couldn't reach me..."

Jared squeezed Evan's hand gently as he started freaking out, at which he received a grateful look.

Alana coughed slightly "Are you two okay...? Something seems off about you two toda-" She paused as she noticed their hands intertwined. "Wait, are you guys...?"

Evan flushed instantly as she said that, and Jared smiled at him, though neither of them said anything.

"Are you two..." She paused for a moment, looking around quickly and lowering her voice to a whisper "Are you two fucking?"

Jared laughed as Evan blushed harder, tightening his hand around Jared's tightly.

He grinned "No, Alana. You really think that this kid would just casually fuck one of his friends with no previous romantic history and walk around holding his hand the day after? We're boyfriends. completely romantic, not sexual."

Alana frowned thoughtfully for a moment, then grinned at them "Okay then! Honestly I didn't think either of you liked guys, but that's cool. I mean, it's not like I wouldn't say yes to a nice girl if she asked me out. Then again, I wouldn't really say no to anyone." She laughed a little "I am very lonely. Anyway, I'll leave you lovebirds be. I'll forgive you for ignoring me this once, just... Try not to do it again."

She vanished almost as quickly as she'd appeared, but Jared could swear he heard a familiar voice humming the Kim Possible theme song from behind one of the bushes.

Alana hummed softly as she opened her messages and typed.

Alana Beck: Evan and Jared are together now

She barely waited a second before the reply came.

Zoe Murphy: Really?

Alana Beck: Yeah. I talked to them just now.

Zoe Murphy: I told you it was bound to happen

Alana Beck: You did

Zoe Murphy: You owe me $10

Alana Beck: Shit.

Alana Beck: I thought you'd forgotten

The moment Alana left, Evan started to notice the people now staring at them, muttering quietly amongst themselves.

"Jared... People are staring"

"People do that, Ev."

"Jared they all hate us we didn't think this through why did we hold hands Jared help they're all staring at us JARED WHY ARE THEY ALL STARING?"

Jared shook his head and grinned up at his boyfriend "Ev, calm down. I got this."

He cleared his throat loudly, drawing most of his peers' attention away from the taller boy panicking next to him.

"Hey, everyone," He spoke loudly, almost at a yell, but not quite, "Evan Hansen is my boyfriend now, and there's nothing you can do about it, and if you have any objections to two boys being in a relationship, you can write them down, roll them up and shove them as high up your ass as your head is."

He heard a few offended gasps and varied noises of protest from the people around them and smirked, turning to a still blushing but slightly calmer Evan, who looked at him with a mixture of gratefulness and curiosity.

"What's wro-"

Before he could finish the question, Jared grabbed his collar and pulled Evan down so their eye levels were more or less even, and before Evan could even ask what he was doing, Jared pressed his lips to Evan's and closed his eyes. He could tell that Evan had almost immediately blushed even harder, the heat radiating from his face.

He wrapped his arms around Evan's neck, smiling slightly into the kiss, and gasped a little as, without any sort of warning, Evan wrapped his arms around Jared's waist and lifted him, not breaking the kiss.

They continued the kiss for a little less than thirty seconds more, before Evan set him back down on the ground, breaking it gently as he moved back to his usual posture.

The crowd had grown completely silent, staring at the two of them, some seemed shocked, some disgusted, and others seemed almost... relieved?

The entire area was silent for a few seconds, though for everyone involved, it seemed like an eternity, before someone finally said something. It was a sophomore, Gary Pendersen, one of the shocked students, though he seemed more amazed than anything, who spoke quietly, though everyone could hear due to the silence;

"That's gay..."

[more thanks to my sister for editing and also giving "Gary the gay guy" a name. Gary is short for Garrett. He may show up more if I need someone to add some commentary]
