Jeremy stood beside the lunch table, his hands shaking wildly. His face was red, and it was obvious he was very nervous. In one hand, he held his phone tightly. He paced back and forth at the edge of the lunch table. Finally, he stopped and turned to Christine, who was now a close friend of his, glints of panic in his eyes.

"Christine, I can't do this," He exclaimed. "I-I'm too n-nervous..."

Christine looked up at him, an amused expression on her face. "Jeremy, what do you have to be nervous about?"

"I-I.. Wh-What if," he stammered, "what if I ru-ruin our fr-friendship?"

Christine sighed and patted the seat beside her, motioning for Jeremy to sit. He did, and lowered his gaze to the table. His heart was pounding, and Christine could hear it pretty well. She placed her hand over his to help them stop shaking so much.

"Jeremy," she said, causing him to look up and turn to her. "You've been friends for, what, twelve years? He's been with you through so much. He's not going to let your feelings for him ruin it, trust me."

"B-b-but wh-what if he d-doesn't like me b-back?" He asked, his eyes seemingly flashing with fear of being rejected. Christine smiled reassuringly.

"Then at least you got it off your chest, right?" She said, and added, "You CAN do this, Jeremy."

Jeremy took a deep breath and smiled. "I can do this," he repeated quietly, grabbing his phone and shakily texted Michael. Christine glanced over at his phone, chuckling at what Jeremy had set Michael's name to. "Player One ❤🕹"

-- Jeremy (12:13 pm): Hey, Michael, you coming to sit?
-- Jeremy (12:13 pm): I have something I want to talk to you about.

Jeremy looked back up at Christine for reassurance, who gave him a thumbs-up. He then jumped; his phone buzzed with a response from Michael, almost immediantly after Jeremy had texted him.

-- Michael (12:14 pm): Yup! I'll be there in a sec.

Jeremy suddenly looked panicked, and began to shake even more. "H-h-he's co-coming..."

"You've got this!" Christine said, placing her hand on his shoulder. "Just tell him how you feel."

Jeremy closed his eyes and nodded. Just then, Michael walked up to the other side of the table.

"Hey, Jer'!" Michael said cheerfully. Jeremy jumped at the sound of his voice and nearly fell out of his seat. Christine helped him back up, sighing softly as she watched Jeremy's face flush bright red.

Michael was laughing hysterically, until he looked at Jeremy's face. He stopped laughing immediantly, and his eyes instantly filled with concern.

"Whoa, Jeremy.. Your face is bright red. Y-You're nervous?" He said, glancing down. His eyes widened when he saw Jeremy's hands shaking wildly. He quickly grabbed his friend's hands, holding them steady and rubbed the back of them with his thumb, trying to calm him down.

Jeremy began studdering, barely able to get a word out. He was staring at his hands being held in Michael's, clearly embarassed and flustered.

"You said that you needed to talk," Michael said. "Is that why you're so nervous..? Wh-What do you need to talk about?"

Christine stood up, startling the two boys. She smiled at them, and grabbed her stuff. "I'll leave you to alone," she said casually. She winked at Jeremy and mouthed the words, "good luck," before she walked away.

"Jeremy..?" Michael asked, his voice quiet.

Jeremy took a deep breath and tried to look Michael in the eyes. "Y-Yeah. I... I did want to ta-talk to you about s-s-something," he said.

Michael's eyebrows furrowed with concern. "Are you okay? Nothings wrong?" He asked.

Jeremy shook his head. "N-no. No-nothing's wrong. I'm okay."

"Then what is it?"

Jeremy closed his eyes, trying to summon to courage to confess. "Michael... I.. I-I li-like y-you," he managed to choke out. He opened one eye to look at the expression on his friend's face.

Michael's eyes had widened in shock. Jeremy could feel the dread filling in his stomach.

"I-I-I me-mean!" He exclaimed, his face heating up. The volume of his voice shrunk with embarassment as he continued. "I me-mean... We.. We've been fr-friends for tw-twelve years. You... You have been wi-with me through.. Well, EVERYTHING. Ev-Even when I didn't deserve you. An-And over time..."

He lowered his gaze from Michael's eyes, his mind racing with the thought of rejection. He gulped, and continued. "And over time... I... I re-realized that.." His voice lowered, barely louder than a whisper. "That I love you..."

Michael's gaze softened, as he watched Jeremy stop shaking so much, now that those words had escaped his mouth. Michael couldn't begin to express the feeling in his chest, now that Jeremy finally liked him back.

But Jeremy looked up, small tears gathering in his eyes. "B-But! I un-understand i-if you don't... If you don't fe-feel the same way, okay? I.. Just want you here. Even as 'just friends,'" He said, his voice cracking.

A smile broke out on Michael's face, and he began to laugh. Jeremy looked down at the table. He bit his lip, trying not to get too upset.

Michael glanced back at him, and tried to stiffle his laugh. "N-no!" He exclaimed. "No, no. I-it's not that!"

Jeremy looked back up at Michael, who's cheeks were beginning to turn red. He stood up and leaned across the table, pressing his lips to Jeremy's.

Jeremy's eyes widened at the sudden kiss, but his gaze softened once more. He closed his eyes and kissed him back. He felt like he was floating; like nothing else existed but just the two of them in that moment.

Moments passed before Michael pulled away from Jeremy. Both their faces were hot and bright red. Jeremy covered his mouth to hide a goofy smile.

"Jeremy," Michael said. "You're such an idiot."

"Wh-what do you mean?" Jeremy said, his voice muffled by his hand.

Michael grinned. "We're not 'just friends.' You're my best friend. And.. I'd like it if we were more than that, too."

Jeremy uncovered his mouth. "I love you.." He whispered.

"I love you too." Michael said, smiling.
