Jeremy sat anxiously on the couch, fidgetting with the hem of the blanket covering him. Beside him was a large bowl of popcorn and on the other side of that, sat Jake. Rich was on the floor beside him, resting in a beanbag chair.
Michael was standing in front of a small bookshelf, scanning the rows of movies that he had. Jeremy shrunk futher into his blanket. He was looking for a horror movie for them to watch. And Jeremy despised horror movies.
The group of boys were having a sleepover party at Michael's place, and they had quickly grown bored. Since it was late, the others decided to watch horror movies, despite Jeremy's nervous protests. Michael knew his best friend got easily scared, but Rich insisted on a really scary one. Michael always had the good scary movies.
Now, here they were. Michael held up a movie case. "How about this one?" He asked.
"Ooh!" Rich exclaimed. "I saw trailers for that one awhile back. I've heard it's really good!"
Jake nodded in agreement. "Yeah, let's watch it!"
Jeremy stayed quiet, shooting irritated and nervous glares at Michael. He quickly got his gaze and looked up. "Aw, c'mon, Jer'! It won't be so bad."
Jeremy didn't say anything, and just let out a small 'huff' of disagreement. Michael chuckled in response and put in the movie. He walked back to the couch and plopped down beside Jeremy.
The movie started, and Jeremy tried to distract himself with popcorn. He and Jake were sharing a bowl, and he watched Jake absent-mindedly grab a few kernels and eat them as he watched. But eventually, the noises coming from the movie got him curious and he glanced up and started to watch with the others.
The setting was eerie and he picked up on the tension from the others. He hadn't payed too much attention so far, so he had no idea what to expect. Almost instinctively, he grabbed Michael's hoodie sleeve.
Michael noticed pretty quickly. After a few minutes, Jeremy's grip on the sleeve tightened with fear. Michael chuckled quietly, and shook his arm out of his friend's grip. He protectively put his arm around Jeremy's shoulders and pulled him closer. "I got you, Jer'." He whispered.
Rich looked up at the two boys and smirked. By now, it was obvious that they had feelings for each other; it was just that neither of them want to admit it. He got Michael's attention - Jeremy's eyes were locked on the screen, out of fear - and teasingly made a kissy face at him. He gestured to Jeremy.
Michael's face turned red and he mouthed, "shut up," to the small boy. Rich snickered, covering his mouth, as Michael quickly turned to look at the screen.
Just then, there was a jumpscare on-screen. Rich let out a small yelp of surprise and instictively reached for Jake's hand, in which his boyfriend responded by grabbing it. Michael only slightly jumped, and turned to Jeremy.
Jeremy sat there, looking very shocked and frightened. He was trembling slightly, his icy-blue eyes widened. Gosh, he looked so helpless.
Only moments passed before there was another jumpscare. Jeremy seemed to jump a foot in the air when it happened, and he practically dove straight into Michael. He wrapped his arms around him and burried his face into Michael's hoodie, letting out a small whimper. Michael had his hands out, surprised that Jeremy began to cling to him so suddenly. His cheeks began to grow hot when Jeremy remained clung to him in a tight hug.
With a red face, Michael glanced up at Rich, who was trying to stifle a laugh. He looked back down at Jeremy and hesitantly put his arm around him. He- He was holding Jeremy? He nervously bit his lip and looked back up at the TV, his face hot and bright red.
Michael felt Jeremy turn to peek out at the screen. He was still shaking. Gosh, was he always this scared of horror movies? Michael knew Jeremy to be a scardey cat, but he never realized how much of one he was. Silently, he lifted his hand and ran it through Jeremy's hair, stroking his head gently in an attempt to comfort him. His heart fluttered; he was barely paying attention to the movie at this point. His gaze was fixated on his best friend.
Jeremy's head was resting on his chest, half of his face burried into his red hoodie. His arms were wrapped around Michael's waist, tightly holding him. The rest of his body was hidden by a blanket that the two of them were sharing.
Whenever Jeremy got spooked, he would hide his face into Michael's chest. A big, goofy smile was plastered on Michael's face, and as much as he wanted to, he couldn't get rid of it. He was pretty much cuddling with Jeremy, and his heart was racing.
Gosh... He just wanted to kiss Jeremy in that moment. His eyes widened at his own thoughts and he shook his head, trying to push away the idea.
They stayed that way for most of the movie. Close to the ending, Michael noticed Jeremy's eyelids beginning to droop. He hadn't managed to take his eyes off of the boy in his arms, so he noticed it quickly. Jeremy closed his eyes and let out a quiet, tired 'mmf' before letting go of Michael.
Michael tilted his head a bit, watching Jeremy scooch away from him gently. Then, Jeremy absentmindedly put his head in Michael's lap, pulling the blanket up over his shoulders. The corners of his lips formed a small, content smile as he began to drift to sleep.
Michael's heart pounded. He looked up at Rich and Jake, his eyes glistening with panic. "Wha-What do I do?" He mouthed to the two. Rich snorted and fell back into the beanbag, laughing. Jake covered his mouth, laughing with Rich.
"Oh man, dude," Jake said, trying to stifle his fit of laughter. "You should see how red your face is!"
"Sh-Shut up! An-And be quiet. You'll... You'll wake him up." He said sheepishly, grabbing the remote and pausing the movie. He looked down at Jeremy, who was snoring softly. He covered his face with his hands, his face radiating with warmth.
Rich's laughter began to cease. He turned to Jake and smirked, holding up his hand. The two of them high-fived each other. "I told you it'd work!" Rich snickered.
Michael lowered his hands and turned to Rich. "Wait, wait.. You.. You knew? Did you two plan this?!"
Jake looked at Rich before turning back to Michael. "Yeah, we did," he chuckled. "We thought it'd be funny."
"You guys!" He exclaimed, his voice cracking slightly. He then slapped his hand over his mouth. He glanced down at Jeremy, looking to see if he disturbed him. He let out a small sigh of relief when he saw that he didn't. He looked back up at the other boys and glared at them.
"Yeah, don't disturb your boyfriend," Rich teased, smirking.
"H-He's not my b-boyfr-"
Michael was cut off when Jake reached over to grab the remote from Michael, and turned off the TV. Michael figured that they didn't need to finish it, considering their 'plan' had worked.
"Looks like we're sleeping here tonight!" Jake said, and stretched. He reached up to turn off the lamp that had provided them light. Rich curled up in the beanbag chair, being small enough to lay down in it.
"Goodnight," Rich mumbled.
"I hate you guys..." Michael sighed. He took off his glasses and set them on the side table next to him. He glanced down at Jeremy again and smiled softly.
"Goodnight, Player 2," he murmured, gently running his hand through Jeremy's curls. He closed his eyes, drifting to sleep.
