~The Next Day~

I sigh in boredom, taking out my homework book. I notice a spare piece of paper wedged in between the pages and slip it under my book. As the teacher begins to read out the answers, I start sketching something. I'm not really concentrating on what I'm drawing, or what the teacher is mumbling about. Although, the teacher is glaring at me. Her piercing eyes cause me to shiver. Why is she staring at me?

She raises her finger and points at me.

"Miss (y/n), I find it rude that you are drawing in my class," she says, walking over to my seat.

She snatches the paper out of my grasp and looks at it.

"And why have you drawn some puppets?" She snorts.

I blush and take back the paper. They look exactly like Ken's puppets. What was I thinking?! The class snickers as they too know who owns those puppets.

"Sorry Mrs Flutter, it won't happen again," I reassure.

At least Ken isn't in this class or else I would have died. I glance around the classroom to see Shu eyeing me. It's obvious he knows what's going on. No, but it can't be. I mean, I... Ken...

Could it be I sort of... like him?

I blush at myself of the thought of that. Looks like I'll be avoiding Shu today.

~After Class~

I should probably practice beyblading with (b/n), after all they are my partner. I rush to the top of the school and out into the fresh air. I stare down at my bey.

"I promise we'll get stronger," I confirm, walking over to the stadium.

I gasp as I see Shu already there.

"I thought you'd come by," he mentions, wiping sweat of himself.

He was obviously practicing and had been for a while. Shu looks up and stares at me, calmly.

"Anything going on?" Shu asks.

"Nope, nothing, zilch, zero, absolutely nothing," I reassure, but on the inside feel myself insisting I'm lying.

Shu smiles.

"Maybe you should talk to Ken about practicing with your bey. I'm sure he would enjoy that," Shu adds, preparing himself to launch.

I catch myself beaming at that idea and stop.

"I might do that," I say, trying to act casual.

Shu launches and then glances at me. He nods silently. I sprint away to go find Ken. Down the stairs, past the lockers and classrooms, out into the open air. I know where he must be. It's obvious, isn't it? His parents are performing a puppet show at the local shops, so I head there.

~After sprinting in a hurry to the shops~

I smell the mixes of food, perfume, new shoes and finally manage to spot Ken's parents.

"Hello, I'm (y/n), a friend of Ken. Would you mind telling me where he might be?" I ask eagerly.

"Ken? He just left to go practice with his bey at the park," Ken's mother replies.

I thank her and once again sprint my way out of the shopping center. Soon enough, I arrive at the park and see Ken launching his bey, Kerbeus.

As his bey slows down and stops finishing, I approach him. I swallow nervously.

"K-ken do you... would you... I was thinking..." I stutter, trying to squeeze out what I'm trying to say.

"(y/n), I'm glad you came, I was hoping you would like to battle," Keru says, his sharp teeth grinning.

"I would love to! I mean, that would be lovely. I mean... yes please," I say becoming less tense.

We each crouch in our launching position, both bladers smiling.

"Ken, don't go easy on me," I say.

"Same to you," he adds.

"Three, two, one... Let it rip!" we both say simultaneously.

The battle begins, Ken taking the middle. My bey, (b/n) spins violently around Kerbeus.

"Go for it (b/n)!" I announce.

"Kerbeus, chain launch!" Besu says, his brown ears flopping.

The beys collide. I bite my lip as mine is knocked back.

"(b/n) use (b/a-bey's ability)!" I say, looking down at my partner.

It's no use, Kerbeus is so strong my bey bursts when I attack.

"Your really good Ken," I beam, picking up my bey.

"You are too (y/n), just need some more practice," Kersu mentions.

I pop (b/n) in my bey holder attached to my belt. I say goodbye to Ken as the sun is setting and head down the stairs. I trip. From seeing houses in front to the hard concrete floor. SMACK... wait, no smack. My eyes are closed, so I open them. Ken has me clutched in his grip, he had caught me before I fell.

"K-ken... thank you," I say, hugging him.

"Your just so clumsy (y/n)," Besu replies, pulling me up.

We hug for some time.

"I couldn't let you get hurt," Besu mentions.

I blush, which causes Ken to blush too. We let go of each other. I take a breath, but nothing comes out.

"T-thanks," I manage to say, before walking away.

"Bye..." I hear Ken mumble.

I turn back, realizing he didn't use his puppets. Although, Ken had already walked away before I could say anything. What a moment I will never forget.
