First Battle

The gang meets up, ready for the tournament to begin. Each of us our excited, all in our own ways. Valt yells about, Honcho stirring him up, Daigo mumbling to Shu. I start to sweat as Ken hasn't arrived yet.

"But where could he be?" I utter.

"Don't worry (y/n), he will arrive!" Valt replies.

Valt is right, but Ken is never usually late. What if something bad happened to him? What if he is hurt? What if he is lost? What if he is with (e/n?! A hand is places on my shoulder. Daigo squeezes me.

"He will come," Daigo states strongly.

My tenseness releases. Daigo is right, there is nothing to worry about. I believe that, but why then do I have a feeling of doubt? I excuse myself to go search for Ken.

"But the tournament is about to begin. Five minutes to be exact," Honcho points out.

"I'll be back!" I call as I continue to run.

I dodge bladers and fans, making sure not to miss Ken's face if I spot him. I make my way out of the crowded stadium and are standing on the streets. Advertisement sign blaze and people selling things blare. A couple sit along a water fountain. The boy splashes her, making her giggle. She splashes back, but falls upon him. They laugh and a warm glow fills in my chest. Ken... if only he felt the same way about me...

A piece of paper flies into the side of my head.

"What the..." I mumble.

I pick up the heart-shaped paper and open it up. It reads:

Dear (y/n),

Meet me round the side alley of the stadium.

Signed Ken

Could it be that Ken... is wanting to speak to me privately. What could he want to talk about? I breezily walk into the dark alley, not a fear in my way, knowing that it's Ken. I push past a gate and come to a halt, as there is a dead end. I lock noise clacks behind me. I turn, a familiar grin and staring eyes.

"(y/n), sorry to tell you this, but Ken left. He moved away," the girl mentions, casually.

"Yeah right, (e/n) he is just late. I know you're lying," I say confidentially.

(E/n) approaches me and takes at throw. I collapse at the punch.

"Go ahead, call out to your love! He isn't here to save you this time because he moved!" she hisses, kicking my body.

I squint in pain. Weakly standing back up, I try to open the gate.

"I'm not dumb, I locked it," (e/n) adds.

I fall, tears rising to my eyes. The physical pain I feel is nothing compared to the pain I feel that Ken left without telling anyone. I wish he was here right now. I close my eyes and clutch (b/n).

"Stay safe, don't get clutched by her evil hands," I whisper, before throwing it into the garden.

"Now, give me your bey! You don't need it anyway, since your such a bad blader," she wails.

"Never! Your just a bully, my bey deserves better than you!" I yell.

Rustling comes from the gate and then a sound of shoes clacking on the floor. I spin round, wide eyes at who I see. Ken stands there, mighty like a lion. His spiked hair waves in the wind. (E/n) rolls her eyes.

"As if you could do anything," she mutters.

The corner of Ken's mouth twitches. It turns into a grin. What could possibly funny right now?

"Maybe not just me... but together we stand strong!" Keru shouts.

I glance behind Ken, seeing Valt, Honcho, Daigo and Shu. I smile, even through the pain I feel.

"This isn't right!" Valt comments strongly.

"What made you become like this?" Honcho mentions, helping me up.

"People like you aren't welcomed to be a blader," Shu announces.

(E/n) stares at Daigo, who remains silent. She closes her eyes.

"I'm sorry... I guess revenge isn't the solution for my problems," she says, collapsing to her knees.

We all turn to Daigo, who's hands are rolled into fists. What is she talking about? Why is Daigo annoyed? Do they know each other? My mind fills with questions, but now isn't the time to ask them. My enemy gets up and dashes away, deep in shame. Ken approaches me, as do the others.

Group hugs are the best. They're warm, cozy and most of all the most efficient way to show you care about each other.

"Come on, let's get going or we'll miss the opening speech," I say.

"Wait!" I splutter before weakly rushing to the garden.

Where is my bey!? Where, where, where!? A sparkling  glitter catches my eye. I breathe a sigh of relief and pick up my partner. My bey is safe. I clutch it in my hand before we all walk back inside the hall where the tournament is being held.

"Welcome blader and bey fans! I am happy to introduce this years tournament!" the commentator says with enthusiasm.

~After cleaning up and waiting for the first battle to begin~

"I wonder who's going to be first," says Honcho, puzzled.

We all agree, but I keep glancing at Daigo who seems to be stooped. The commentator calls up the first bladers, but I'm too zoned out in a worried state to focus.

I look away from Daigo and see the others balling their eyes at me. Turning to Ken, his face is grim. Puzzled, I ask what was announced.

"Could the bladers (y/n) and Ken please come to the stage to have the first and opening battle!" the judge repeats.

I choke. I have to battle... Ken, but I never could do that!
