I stared at the message in front of me, wondering why he was messaging me so late. Knowing full well that I probably wasn't going to be able to fall back asleep, I decided to answer the text.
I wasn't sure what he wanted, and as I adjusted my body so that I was leaning against the headboard with my back, I felt a new and strange feeling snake its way into my chest. It wasn't a hangover; the feeling was something different... excitement?
Jungkook: "Yeah, I'm awake. What's up?"
Jimin: "Guess where I am."
Jungkook: "I don't know."
Jimin: "Silly. That's why I told you to guess."
Jungkook: "Um, in Vancouver?"
Jimin: "Lol. Obviously, but like where specifically?"
Jungkook: "Um, at your friend's house?"
Jimin: "Close. I'm actually at a bar. My friend Suga brought me out for a night on the town. Except he's so drunk he can barely walk."
Jungkook: "Suga...? Is he the friend you're staying with? What an odd name."
Jimin: "Yeah, he's putting me up at his apartment. Oh, and don't worry it's just a nickname. Lol."
Jungkook: "So, what are you going to do? It's getting late."
For some reason I felt a little concerned for Jimin. I mean, that's the sort of person I was: I cared for people a little too much, even perfect strangers like Jimin. I had an innate need to make sure I help people as much as I can. Something I got from my mother, I think.
Jimin: "I don't know. Suga has the keys in his pocket so worst case scenario I could just catch an Uber back to his place and throw him on the couch. But that's not much fun."
Jungkook: "As long as you're safe. Make sure you get him drinking a lot of water. And take his phone from him so he doesn't lose it. Also, make sure you take the keys from him in advance."
Jimin: "Damn. Alright, Dad. Lmao!"
Jungkook: "Trust me, Jimin. You don't want to be stranded in a new city with your only friend there hammered out of his mind. Be safe."
Part of me wanted to straight up ask Jimin why he even bothered messaging me and not one of his many friends. Especially since he seemed so confused that I was showing concern about his situation.
Then I remembered that I had his cell phone, and if he was anything like me, he didn't remember anyone's phone number by heart.
Jimin: "Yeah, you're right. I've had a few drinks too. Maybe I should cut myself off just in case. But ugh these Twisted Teas are delicious!"
Jungkook: "I have the worst tolerance for alcohol, so if I was there I'd totally be cutting myself off."
Jimin: "Aww, if you were here :( I could use a friend about now to party with."
I felt myself flush, a small smile curving onto my lips. I didn't know it then at the time, but Jimin was the kind of guy that you stayed up until 4AM talking to. You couldn't help it.
Jungkook: "So what, we're friends now? :P"
He wasn't trying to flirt with me, I knew that much. So why was I smiling at the screen, eagerly watching the three dots bounce around, indicating that he was typing his message:
