Chapter 9

When we got home, Gale was waiting at the door, arms folded across his chest and a vicious scowl on his face. "What are you doing here, Mellark?"

"Does it matter? I'm here with my girl; we're having a good time; nothing's going wrong. Problem?" Peeta answered back in a smart-ass remark.

"Yes, I do, actually. Why the fuck do you think it's okay to: a) run away from the house when you weren't in any condition of walking, nor running; b) going on a psycho spree and SHOOTING me; and c) coming back here acting all hunky-dory when you fucked up?" Gale said, raising his voice. Uh-oh. Gale never raises his voice.........this is going to end in destruction.

The guys got into a straight-out argument. Before fists could be thrown, I stepped between them. "Hello!? Do you realize how much chaos you two are causing? Gale, Peeta meant no harm-"

"Bite it, Katniss. Stop sticking up for this retard baker's boy and learn that life isn't fucking peaches and cream." Gale shouted at me. He never shouted at me.......not even when he gets really pissed off at me sometimes. I knew something was up.

I looked straight into his eyes. Those beautiful gray eyes filled with unwanted tears, hatred, stress, frustration, and a clash of different emotions. I put my hand on his cheek. "Gale-"

He knocked my hand away. "Stop, Katniss. Stop pretending like you love me. Stop your feelings for me as a friend. As of now, I don't want anything to do with you until you get baker's boy out of this goddamn house and out of the fucking way. Goodbye, Katniss."

He stomped away, slamming the door behind him. The slam was so powerful I was afraid the poor door would come off its hinges. By the looks on Gale's face and the frustration in his eyes, I don't think he's coming back anytime soon.
