Afternoon turning to evening, I sighed, my head resting on my mate. "What is it my love?" Ember asked, eyes questioning, searching. "I really need to meet up with my Be-- Damien." I said, still not sure of her alliance, but knowing truly it wouldn't matter. "Why?" She asked. I didn't know what to say, didn't know how much I should tell her. Would she come with me? Would she trust me? She nuzzled my neck, trying to reassure me with her eyes. I sighed heavily, I told her. I told her everything. She was silent for what felt like an eternity. I was nervous, I didn't know what would happen. Finally she breathed out stood up and turned to me shifting. She grabbed as much of me as she could in human form, pulling me tight into a hug. I breathed out relived, shifting to meet her embrace. Holding her close, tight to my body. She whispered, "Let's go find your pack." I pulled back looking at her; "What about your pack. Won't they come looking?" I was searching her face. "I will let them know. But we have to take care of you first," she said kissing me gently. That kiss radiated through my whole body, bringing with it heat, an intense heat. I kissed her back, sensing and feeling with every fiber of my being. I was lost in our embrace. She slowed pushing slowly away. "Come. We need to go. We have our lives to be here, together." We shifted and headed towards my meeting point.

We ran for several hours before she started to slow. I dropped back to match her pace. I licked her snout; "Are you alright, my love?" I linked with her. "Yes, I'm just not used to running for such a long amount of time." I slowed to a walk, allowing her to fall in stride with me. "Sorry I can go for almost 15 hours without a break." She looked as if looking through me. "Why so hard on yourself?" She asked walking so close that our bodies touched. I sighed; "With being next in line and an only daughter to the Guardians of the Moon pack, I feel like I needed to be strong for everyone. Not many know but dealing with rogues the way we do...... did, I couldn't risk letting my guard down. I agreed with my parents that we needed to help but with so many rogues and many not thinking anything was wrong. We had a lot of enemies, but i didn't think the numbers were so vast. And now with no one left I am a rogue with no pack and no where to turn. All those years helping lower ranked wolves fight the oppression and hate of their rogue leaders......" I trailed off, looking up at the sky. We walked in silence for what felt like hours. She stopped by a river and drank. I leaned in and drank as well. We walked up to a cave in the rock outcropping and laid down. She turned to me; "You are no rogue, love. And what you and your parents were doing was not wrong. Many packs have heard of what they were doing and agreed we needed to come together." She looked out over the river and forest before us. She breathed out; "That's actually why my pack was heading your way."

I looked down at her questioning. "We are not rogues but our pack no longer exists." She said, sadness fills her eyes. "Fire of Life pack. My father was coming to your pack for help. He had heard of what you were doing, uniting the packs. We had a large rogue problem and they challenged every Alpha just to challenge. The constant fighting wears on you. We couldn't defend our house anymore and he gave the order to scatter." She sighed heavy, walking to the edge of the cave, sitting up and staring out.

I walked up next to her, allowing her to place her head on my chest. "We have been separated, each smaller pod trying to reach your pack. Slowly the pods were hunted down and all but wiped out. We learned we couldn't use normal tactics so we started learning to set traps and cover our tracks. We also learned to mask our scent. That's how you didn't know I was a wolf when you entered the coffee shop."

I looked at her, she continued. "We were unsure how much farther you were so our small group stopped and setup a base camp. When we could we would send scouts out to see if we could find any trace of your pack, then we heard. The Attack." She stopped looking back at me sorrow and apologies in her eyes. "There were groups that moved through our town but who knew they were mounting an attack on your house." Tears filled her eyes. "When we heard, we knew what had happened. We couldn't believe it. We could have warned you." She buried her head in my chest.
