Day In Day Out

It felt like only a couple of hours, Ember starts to stir. I wake up watching Ember move and she is sweating. I gently try to wake her up. She jumps a little, her eyes fly open, fear flushes her face then she grabs me and whimpers. I just hold her tight until she relaxes into my arms. "Do you want to talk about it?" She shakes her head no. "Do you want to talk about your meeting earlier?" She sighs. "He's trying to intimidate and sway opinions. He looked at me with disgust and admires his work," she runs her fingers over the scar. "He seemed happy. I don't understand how he got this way. We all lost so much but it changed him. He's growing dark." She gets up and walks to the bathroom, I hear the sink water run.

"He even tried to get Steele to talk and get his side. Trying to figure out alliances, Steele didn't bite." The water shuts off and she comes back drying her face. "I don't know but he also has us doing chores or tasks. I know it's just to limit your training." She looks at me, searching, looking for something. She sighs again, leaning against me. "Me and Steele will be gone until after 14:00 tomorrow. Sorry." She looks up, eyes pleading. I lean over and kiss her forehead. "I'll make due. It's not your fault and we have to follow station remeber." I smile and she relaxes more. "We'll figure it out, nothing to worry about." I slide back down under the sheets and pull her close, cuddling. I kiss her and hold her until we both fall asleep again.

Morning came too soon. I roll out of bed, throw on a t-shirt and shorts.  I head to the kitchen to get coffee.  The two younger pack members freeze when they see me.  I smile and continue making coffee. They don't stop watching me until I leave the room.  I walk back thinking about what I wanted to do today. I open the door, "Good morning baby. Time to get up." I set her coffee next to the bed and kiss her.  She yawns and reaches for her coffee.  I start getting dressed,  I felt like going for a run. Ember comes over and kisses my check before jumping in the shower.  I finish my coffee and pack a bag.  She is getting dressed.  "I'm going for a run then I'll be downstairs." I said walking over to her. "Please be alert. Don't go past the west tracks or south 5th street. Stay main street and blocks around. Stay safe I'll see you this afternoon. " Ember kisses me as we walk out together.

I put my headphones on and map out a course around the town. It wasn't a big town.  Only a couple of streets,  a few shops. It was Monday morning,  a few people were up.  The coffee shop was the only place I saw open.  I jogged around the blocks a few times in different directions.  I didn't go too far, respecting the fact that I don't know this town and Ember does.  After an hour I decided to head down to the training room to research some more and work on my movements.  I stopped off in the kitchen to get some waters. The younger members were sitting at the table with Remmy. Looked like they were reading over history, and not the history most people read in school. Remmy waved as I smiled waving back.  The younger pups seemed unsure and just focused on their books.

This routine went on for the next 4 days.  I'd come and go; training,  researching and sleeping.  Steele and Ember were kept busy and away from the bunker. They only got a couple of hours a day to work with me.  They also had evening meetings to occupy their time. The Alpha was controlling as much as he could. Thursday night he kept Ember and Steele later than usual. I was on edge but knew it was all a ruse. So I showered and laid down,  trying to at least let my body rest.  Because heaven knows my mind wasn't going to slow down. I dozed in and out, trying to wait for Ember. Eventually I couldn't keep my eyes open and I fell asleep.
