Morning came too early and I did not want to get out of bed. But as I stirred Ember rolled over and yawned. "Morning beautiful." I said smiling and kissing her. "Morning." She said. I let her short response go, she is going to have a hard day. Everyone will want to ask about her scar, what happened and why didn't it heal. Everyone will see but she won't tell them the truth, to protect them all. We got up, got dressed and headed to the kitchen. Ember stayed behind me, dodging looks and just trying not to call attention to herself.
"Morning you two." Steele called from the hallway. "Hey Steele. What you got going on today?" I called back. "Well, Remmy gonna work with younger pups and pack members. I got a few errands to run. But should be back around 11ish." I just nod and turn to see Ember just staring at the coffee pot keeping her back to the room. I just stand next to her waiting for coffee. "What you have today babe?" I ask grabbing two coffee mugs. She just shrugged. You could feel the weight in the pack house. Even those who weren't at the trial knew what happened. The air lingered with fear and uncertainty. I grabbed some fruit from the fridge and some peanut butter. The coffee beeped and Ember made our cups. She handed me mine and simply left started walking back to the room.
I grabbed my plate and cup following her. She passed others with her head down trying to not let others see. We make it back to the room and she just sits on the edge of the bed. I sit next to her, finishing my peanut butter. "Hey want to come with me? I'm gonna train and then Steele will meet us later. We could go to lunch on break." I said trying to get her to look up. "I don't want to go anywhere. I can't even go into work for a few days. Until I figure out what I'm gonna tell people. I just... Just leave me alone." The words stung. I knew she didn't mean it but I knew she needed time. I hated that I felt helpless at that moment. I wanted to hold her, tell it was all going to be ok.
I got up and turned on a playlist on her phone. Letting the music play soft as I packed a bag for the gym and training. I walked back over to Embers side and keeled down. Taking her hand, "I love you. I trust you and I respect you. I can't know what your feeling. But I do know people love and care about you. Take the time you need but don't push us away. I have to go train. You know where to find me." I stood up and hugged her, kissing her head. I walked out of the room and headed down the halls to the abandon sections.
I found the room Steele showed me the day before. I found the lights and to my surprise it was much bigger that I thought, I could shift and train in either form. I started stretching and warming up. I figured I would work speed drills because he was much bigger and most likely stronger so I needed to be quicker. There was old equipment down there, I rigged some up and started working attacks, dodges and counters. I was pushing myself hard to increase my stamina not allowing myself to stop......
Some time later, I was in wolf form currently standing on all fours listening. I was working on my sense of focus. When you get attuned to your senses you can use more of those wolfy traits. Your senses are just as important as any strength or speed. I heard a distant voice. I tried to focus on the sounds, echoes. It was low, male and gruff. The other was male but not as gruff and more hushed. I couldn't make out what they were saying but I did know whatever it was it couldn't be good since they were whispering. I stayed quiet waiting for any sounds disappeared before I started training again.
