I pace the room waiting for Embers return. She wasn't responding to my link calls. My body needed to rest but I was refusing to lay down. Steele and Remmy tried to reassure me but I couldn't help but worry. Hours passed, Steele and Remmy headed off to bed. I tried to relax, so I took a shower. I felt a pain but just assumed I was still healing. My ribs were sore but bones were healed and bruises almost gone. My arm was still weak but also mostly healed. So i just figured the feeling was nothing. After my shower I threw on some clothes I found in her closet. Jeans and a tank top. I laid back on the head board and before I knew it I was out.
I heard movement and jumped up. Ember was opening the door. She headed straight to the bathroom and turned the shower on. I followed her and wrapped her up from behind. She was tense. I ran my hands over her shoulders and turned her around. She buried her head in my chest. I could hear faint sobs. I tried to raise her head but she pulled away. "What's wrong honey?" I asked. Letting her undress and get into the shower. She was silent letting the water run over her body. I let her have her time not pushing. I just sat silently outside the shower. I picked up her clothes and put them in the hamper. Something felt damp. I looked and there was blood on her shirt.
I tried to control my rage, maintain my composure. My tone was low and rougher than I intended. "Ember what is this on your shirt?" I already knew cause I could smell the blood. She didn't respond, I just heard the shower shut off. I turned around to find her wrapped in a towel. There were claw marks and lashes all over her body. They were mostly already healed, but there was one on her face. Deep, jagged and slow to heal. I felt my blood boil and my rage grow. "WHO!?" I said. There were tears in her eyes, "Its not what you think. Calm down please and just hold me. I'll tell you everything." I take her in my arms and lead her to the bed. I grab shorts and a t-shirt for her. Then we crawl into bed and she curls up close to me and I hold her tight.
I relax and slow my breathing, giving her time to organize her thoughts. "So.?" I asked. She drew a ragged breath. "So. The meeting was about a pack member. The Alpha used a bullshit excuse and made an example of the Omega den mother." She paused and breathed out. "He claimed she was connected to the rogues. He gave her sentence and began to carry it out. After the first lash I couldn't standby and watch. I shifted without realizing it and I was standing between Black and the Omega." I call to everyone, "She has done nothing wrong. She has cared for every single one of our pack pups and some of us. There has been no proof presented and by our laws without proof sentencing can not be carried out."
"Stand down." Black said, gripping the lash. I stood over the Omega, "NO." Ember trembled as she breathed and spoke again. "Black turned to my father, he just looked off. I saw nothing in his face. Just nothing. Black raised the lash and brought it down hard across my side. I grabbed it on the second attempt and pulled it from Blacks hands. He immediately shifted and attacked. He got several hits I before I could shake him. My father bellowed and everything stopped." She sobbed. "He shifted. He walked toward the Omega, who was submitting. He..." She choked on the words. "He killed her. Then he came to me and slashed my face. It was all a show of power and fear. Don't go against Alpha." She buried her face in my chest crying. "It wasn't right. I don't even recognize him any more."
I held her, running my fingers through her hair. Breathing slow trying to calm her trembling and sobs. After a while later her sobs had stopped and she was breathing slow sleeping on my chest. I linked Steele, "hey you up?" "Just so happens I am what's up?" "Did you know?" I asked. "No. Not until they announced it in the pack link. Remmy has been a mess. She would help Teresa out from time to time. She is besides herself. How's Ember?" The concern rang through. "No worse for wear but emotional she will hurt for a while." I could hear him growl through the link. "That's why I linked you. Tomorrow as soon as your free meet me. I'll be there all day since I have no rights in the pack. Unless Ember needs me I will be training. This has to stop." "Yes Alpha. Goodnight."
