More loud thumping and banging came from down the hallway, the louder it got the closer it was. I grabbed a kitchen knife off the table then slowly walked towards the noise.

"Who's there?" I questioned. "Hello?"

In the darkness I saw a figured move. It was standing up straight and it was coming after me. They pushed me into the wall and snatched the knife out of my hand. I kneed them in their private area and they fell to the ground. I started running back into the living room for Alizza, we're getting out of here.

He or she grabbed my ankle and tripped me.

"No! Get off me! Alizza run outside!"

"Momma?" Her voice shook with fear.

"I said go! Don't come back in here!" She ran outside but left the door open. "What do you want from me?"

"You need to pay for what you did!"

"I didn't do shit! Who are you?"

He wrapped his hands around my neck then began to choke me. It was impossible to breathe. I tried to get his hands off me, I tried to get him off of me. He was so heavy and strong.

"P-please," I begged. I can't breathe, there's no air.

"Get away from my momma!" Alizza stood behind the guy and hit him in the head with a frying pan.

"Ow shit!" He rolled off of me so I got up as quick as I could while trying to catch my breath.

I picked up Alizza and ran out of the house with my keys and jacket. I put her in the car then I started driving away.

"I thought I told you to stay outside," I said to Alizza.

"But he was hurting you," she said. "I'm sorry momma."

"It's okay baby. You need to listen to me next time though, you could have gotten hurt."

"Where are we going?"

"There's only one place we can go."

I was driving us to Eric's house, I can't go anywhere else. It started raining out of nowhere and it was hard to drive with barely any light. The headlights on my care were broken so I can't turn them on.

My car started making a loud noise and stopped in the middle of the street. Shit.

"No no no," I said. "Come on don't do this to me." I tried starting the engine but it wouldn't do anything. I'm out of gas. How did that happen? I filled it up yesterday. "Damn it. Alizza stay in the car."

I got out the car and went to my trunk. Why didn't I see this coming? There's no gasoline in my car, my trunk is empty with only a baseball bat. That's pretty much useless in my situation.

"Fuck." I opened the door and took Alizza out.

"Momma I'm getting wet," she whined.

I put her hood up on her head then wrapped my jacket around her. I would have me get sick then her. I walked the rest of the way to Eric's. I would call him but I don't want him driving in this weather.

Minutes later I was knocking on his door, it wasn't a long walk since I was still in his neighborhood. He opened the down and frowned when he saw me.

"I had nowhere else to go," I said. "Eric can we stay here for the night? Please?"

"Hurry up and get in," he said. He closed the door after we got in. "Damn you're soaking baby. Are you okay?"

"I will be." I put Alizza down.
