I haven't been very active on this account at all, but I still want to keep these memories so here we go.
It's come that time of year again when the sun is hottest, which means band camp!! This year I joined the color guard rather than staying on the hornline with flute. I've done guard before; last winter season I was part of my school's first winter guard! I liked it so much that I decided to do it again for fall.
Yesterday, which was Day 1, went pretty well. The first thing we did was fitness block, which consisted of running, stretching, dancing, squats, push ups, and crunches. After that we learned about 16 sets of drill, then went on lunch break. After lunch was sectionals, which the guard had indoors in the auditorium. At 3pm, we had a full ensemble rehearsal in there, and at 4-5 we went back out onto the field to review our drill. We then ate dinner and went back out and reviewed our drill once more.
Today(Day 2)I got there late because I had to do a perm model for cosmetology school. I got there at lunch, and after we did sectionals and full ensemble again. When we went back out to the field before dinner, my friend and I had to learn some of the new sets of drill they had learned that morning because we weren't there. It went pretty well and then we went to eat dinner. Dinner was not vegetarian, as they told us it would be, so the other vegetarians and i just ate cookies and watermelon for dinner. After dinner we went back out to the field and reviewed drill again. At the end of the day, the band director chose the color guard for the section to win the spirit stick that day! The spirit stick is rewarded to the section that works the hardest and performs the best, and there are more sections than there are days of band camp, so it's a pretty big deal to get it. Right after practice, we went to a thrift store and bought a huge teddy bear, some clothes, and a butterfly kite to put on the stick. The stick already had some clothes and a head made out of a paper plate, so we put the clothes and kite on the bear and taped that to it. Then we gave the face makeup because we could.
And that concludes band camp days 1 and 2!!! 3 more to go!
