Mommy's Little Girl

For the next two weeks, my little girl was a sweet, innocent baby as long as I was around. She always cried at exactly five o'clock every other morning which made it easy to nurse her and was rather easy to calm down. Almost too easy. But things took a drastic turn when I left her alone with godmother Beverly for the first time.

It was one warm night in July when everyone in their right mind was out enjoying themselves. Since I had worn myself down being a mother, Bev suggested I take the night off to let loose and have fun. I wasn't quite up for it but it had been awhile since I last got out so I left CC home with Bev and Ben.

Some time later, I was just starting to get really drunk when my phone rang. "Alysse, you need to see this." So I ran home and raced inside.

And there, sitting in the living room was my baby, holding a red balloon in one of her chubby hands. Her usually green eyes were suddenly burnt orange and her tiny mouth was full of short sharp fangs. But what really set me off was her laughter, it sounded like a baby but also sounded like a grown lunatic. Bev already knew why she was acting like this, Ben was frightened, confused, but starting to piece everything together.

"A," he asked, "tell me the truth; who is CC's father?"

Long story short, Ben wasn't happy to find out who CC's father was. But since she was in fact my daughter and he had a soft spot for her, he decided to keep his mouth shut. For the next two years, I continued to live with them while caring for my little girl. As time past, I knew if CC was ever going to make friends she'd have to start school, despite Ben's warnings, I decided to enroll her. Obviously, registering her under CC was out of the option.

So I waited a little longer until she was old enough to talk and understand me and gave her a lesson on lying.

"If anyone asks what your name is, tell them it's Lucy. Unless you really trust them, tell them it's Lucy. Do you understand?" She nodded, nervously sucking her thumb.

"Yes Mommy."
