Alysse's P.O.V

As Calamity comes home that day, I know she's killed another unfortunate child but I don't say anything. No one does talk about the child murders. She sits down at the table and I place a burger and fries in front of her, rolling my eyes as she extends her fangs to take a ginormous bite.

"I just don't understand how you can eat a whole kid and still be hungry." She swallows before speaking. "I didn't eat him, I liquified him, so I'm still hungry." I roll my eyes at her meaty grin. "Be sure to wash your dishes tonight." She rolls her eyes. "Whatever." Pause, I draw in a hesitant breath.

"Calamity?" She glances up. "Yeah mom?" Here goes. "You know how you're always asking about your father?" She sits up slowly, I have her full attention. "What about him?" I run a finger across my ring, thinking back to my darling's soulful eyes, how they're so much like hers.

"I...suppose you already know he didn't vanish on business." She huffs angrily. "No shit." It's in a whisper but I hear it anyway. "Well...we met when I was younger, in this town." She arches a brow. "Oh?" I nod, gaze going to the window and the midday sun.

"My stepdad, your step grandfather, was a wicked man. I'd be lying if I said he didn't treat my mother and I like shit." Pause. "What happened to him?" I smile at the memory. "Your father." "What do you mean?"

So I told her, but not entirely. I told her he was a cold blooded killer who took a fancy to me after relieving me of my family burden, I told her about how we reunited years late, how he loved calling me baby. But I didn't tell her about the Losers Club, how they hated It for what he done, that they'd never accept that CC's his kid. But most of all, I didn't tell her her father was completely inhuman, even though she's mauled children CC still believes she's human and I don't want to spoil that for her.

"But if he's still alive, where is he now?" I hold back tears upon hearing that question. "I don't know CC, I truly don't know." The silence that drifts in makes me wilt like an old flower, remembering yet again how long it has been since I last saw my beloved.
