Song: Distance by Christina Perri
1959
Gordie LaChanceI was so late, but I didn't really care all that much because I knew my parents wouldn't realise I was gone for so long. Even if they did notice, they wouldn't care. Any other kid would rush home, and be a nervous wreck for the lecture they were going to receive from their parents. I wish my parents would lecture me.
I had slept over at Vern's last night with Teddy, Chris, and of course Vern. We had woken up late, per usual, but this time, Vern actually tried to help, and he gave me directions for a quicker route home. But, his directions were absolutely terrible. Usually, it took me about fifteen minutes to walk home from Vern's house, and this route already took up twenty five minutes. I just wanted to go home.
I huffed, and I looked through the windows of the shops as I walked past them. There was an ice cream shop, and I stopped walking when I saw her.
She was gorgeous. Her long, brown hair sat in a high ponytail with a ribbon tied in it, and she was wearing this really nice dress with flowers on it. I could only see half of her face, but from what I could tell, she was flawless.
I really wanted to walk in there and start a conversation with her. But I was too nervous, and knowing myself, I would've embarrased myself, badly. I looked more closely, trying to stare at the girl in front of me as long as possible. I don't think she went to my school because she didn't look familiar at all. She must have moved here this summer. I guess I'll find out when school starts in a month.

"Carmen, would you like your usual?" Mario asked as I walked into the ice cream shop and sat down.
I nodded, "Yes, please," I said, and he turned around to make my milkshake.
"How has your day been so far?" I asked, and he shrugged.
"Lacking, since it's only ten in the morning," Mario said.
I hummed, "Makes sense," I said. Mario turned around, and he handed me my strawberry milkshake.
"Why do you come so early everyday?" He asked.
I took a sip from my milkshake, "Because your milkshakes help me start off my day, I don't think I could survive without them," I said, and he nodded.
"They are the best in town," Mario said as he gestured to the big banner above him that read, 'The best milkshakes in town!' I laughed, and took another sip.
I saw something move in my peripheral vision, and I turned my head towards the door. I furrowed my eyebrows, I swear I saw someone.
Hm, odd.
