Carmen was different. You can't really expect someone to look the exact same and act the same when they're a teenager. I mean, that's exactly what being a teenager is, change. She had lighter hair (she had dyed it around a year ago) which she kept down most of the time, and she stopped wearing matching dresses. Carmen stopped going to Mario's ice cream shop everyday, but that was only because Mario had passed away from a heart disease a year ago. She still thought about him, all the time, actually. He was the father figure in her life, and she felt empty without him.
Carmen sat in her chair in Mario's Ice Cream Shop, drinking a strawberry milkshake that tasted slightly different because it was made by someone else. The only thing that made Carmen feel a bit better, was that Gordie was going to meet her here. It was their two year anniversary, and Gordie said over the phone that he had something special planned.
She looked out the window, and saw Gordie walking past the window. Her eyes lit up, and when Gordie saw Carmen, his did the same. Gordie entered the ice cream shop, and Carmen tackled the poor boy.
"Hi, babe," Gordie said, and he lightly kissed Carmen.
"Happy two year anniversary!" Carmen cheered.
"I have something really exciting planned," He winked.
"I can't wait!" Carmen exclaimed.
"Are you ready?" Gordie asked, and Carmen nodded.
She took a sip of her milkshake, and she got out of her seat, "Thanks, Robert!" She said, and Robert waved to Carmen.
As Gordie and Carmen walked to the diner, they passed by Vern and Teddy.
"Hey, you guys are still together?" Teddy asked, and Carmen and Gordie looked at each other and smiled.
"Two years today," Carmen said.
"Congratulations, sincerely," Vern said, and Gordie gave him a small grin.
"Thanks, Vern," Gordie said, and the boys waved to the couple.
When they reached the diner, a waitress seated them, and took their orders.
The bell jingled signalling someone walked into the diner, and Gordie looked behind him out of
instinct. Chris Chambers walked towards them, and a large grin grew on Gordie's face."Hey, Chris!" Gordie said, and Chris smiled at the couple.
"Hey, guys, how's my favourite couple?" Gordie and Chris did a little handshake, and Carmen smiled.
"Amazing, thank you," Carmen said, and Chris hugged Carmen.
"Isn't it your two year anniversary?" He asked, and the couple nodded.
"Congratulations!" He said, and Gordie thanked his friend.
"Well I'll let you guys get back to your date, I'll see you guys later!" Chris said, and walked away.
"Carmen, I've, uh, got something for you," Gordie went to grab something out of his pocket, and he pulled out a small velvet box. Carmen gasped, and put her hands over her heart in shock.
"I know it might be a bit early, but I know you're the one for me. Ever since I brought you here two years ago on our first date, I knew. I love you so much," Gordie said, not making eye contact with Carmen.
Gordie opened the box to reveal a ring, and Carmen wiped away tears.
"It's a promise ring. I hope you like it," Gordie said.
"Like it? I love it, and you, so much," Carmen exclaimed. She threw her arms around Gordie for the second time today.
"I'm glad," He said as she released Gordie from the hug. He carefully took the ring, and slide it on her right index finger.
Carmen leaned in, and kissed him. Gordie smiled into the kiss, and Carmen soon pulled away.
"Gordie LaChance, you're a dream,"
