"Gaara!" Temari shouted as her and Kankuro jumped down to Ookami and the injured Gaara.
"Stop it Gaara!" Temari firmly told her younger sibling.
Kankuro grabbed a hold of some of Ookami's fur, trying to hold her back. "Enough Ookami!"
"I must..kill him." Gaara took a few staggered steps forward.
"Don't forget our mission." Temari said to both Gaara and Ookami.
But Gaara pushed his sister aside, blood lust had over taken his mind and body. Ookami snapped her teeth back at Kankuro who jumped back. She lowered her head and bared her teeth in a deathly snarl at the Uchiha. But then, Baki appeared in font of them all.
"What are you four doing? Can't you see the operation is already under way?"
Gaara grabbed at his head with both his hands and groaned in pain.
Baki looked back at Sasuke. Genma appeared in front of Sasuke to protect him.
"What the hell is going on?! Tell me!" Sasuke demanded.
Gaara groaned in pain once again and fell to his knees.
Without taking her eyes off of Sasuke, Ookami spoke. "He's almost out of Chakra and his wound needs to be healed, its worse than it looks."
Baki glared back at his red headed student. "You fool, its your fault you tried to transform before the signal was given." His stern tone made Ookami take a step towards him, her sensei remind serious faced but took a step back. He knew what she could do. He knew what the two of them could do together.
"We need Gaara for this all to work. You guys take him and have Ookami heal his wounds. Once his Chakra is full restored we will get back into the operation." Baki told his students.
"You got it." Kankuro said with a nodded then helped his little brother to his feet.
"And you sensei?" Temari asked Baki.
"I'll take care of these guys." He faced Genma and Sasuke.
"Ookami, you don't have to do this! This isn't who you are." Sasuke's sudden words surprised everyone, even Ookami. It was his genuine look of concern for her that made her stop snarling. "I know you hate me right now, but you are better than this. You are better than them."
'What makes him say that? What would possibly make me better than them?' Ookami was confused.
"I know you've made friends here. People like Shikamaru..and Naruto. Do you want them to get hurt? What do you think Naruto would say to you right now?" Sasuke slowly stood to his feet.
Images of Naruto and Shikamaru flashed through Ookami's mind. Naruto laughing and shoving bowl after bowl of Ramen down his mouth. Shikamaru blushing anytime she spoke to him and how good he smelled when they'd sit and talk under the stars. She recalled when after the preliminary rounds Naruto gave her a piggy back around town to find his sensei; and just last night she was out enjoy food and laughs with Shikamaru, his father and some of the other dad's from the Leaf Village. They were all so kind to her.
"GO NOW!" Baki barked at his students.
In a flash the sand siblings took off, but Ookami hesitated for a moment as she continued to stare at Sasuke. Her ear twitched then in a blink she was gone. Sasuke was shocked at how fast she disappeared.
'No...' He felt defeated.
"Sasuke...you're a chuunin now. You need to go after Gaara." Genma said to the Uchiha boy.
Sasuke nodded. "I know what I must do." He then took off after the Sand ninja's.
Sasuke's words repeated in Ookami's mind as she ran through the woods, the sand siblings in the trees jumping above her. Her nose then twitched and she looked up at the siblings.
"Sasuke is trailing us."
"We have to move faster, Kankuro." Temari picked up her speed.
Kankuro groaned in annoyance.
'If you guy could go as fast as me we wouldn't have this problem.' Ookami snorted.
Once gaining a little more distance the team stopped.
"How are we looking Ookami?" Kankuro asked down the wolf.
She stared back at the direction they came from and sniffed and listened.
"He's close.."
Temari smirked. "Leave everything to me."
After setting some trip wire traps, Ookami and the Sand siblings could hear them go off back in the distance.
"Good one Temari." Ookami smirked.
"Ookami," Temari replied back as they ran. "We need you to get back in your human form and heal Gaara, quickly."
"Hmm." Ookami nodded and sand swirled around her as she ran. Within seconds the sand that had enveloped her diminished and there she ran in her human form. She was just about to jump up into the trees when she heard a familiar voice. She froze and looked up.
"Did you really think I'd let you get away?"
"Sasuke Uchicha." Temari glared at the raven haired boy.
"This is as far as you guys go." Sasuke smiled at them.
Kankuro went to say something, but his sister leaped forward, throwing kunai's at Sasuke, who easily dodged them.
"Go! Get Gaara out of here. I'll take care of him." Temari instructed.
Kankuro took off carrying Gaara.
"No you don't!" Sasuke threw kunai's at the brothers, but Ookami blocked them with her own kunai as she jumped up into the trees to join everyone. Sasuke's eyes went wide for a moment. "Ookami." He felt relieved to see her. But the petite girl took off after Kankuro and Gaara, leaving Sasuke and Temari to fight.
"Hurry Ookami, I don't think Temari will be able to hold that kid off long." Kankuro had set Gaara down, leaned back against a tree as Ookami's hands glowed green over Gaara's injured shoulder. She stared at the limp red head and she frowned. 'Gaara...I'm so sorry....I should have protected you.' Her blood then began to boil as she remembered Gaara's blood curdling scream ring in her head when Sasuke injured him.
Kankuro looked around. "Ookami, Sasuke is-"
Sasuke landed on a branch next to them, panting. "Are you done running?"
"Who said I was running? I'll take you on." Kankuro glared at Sasuke.
"Wait!" Temari landed beside Kankuro. Ookami's fangs were growing and her heart was thudding faster. She was about done healing Gaara.
"You guys take Gaara and keep going, I'll-" Temari was cut off.
"Go."
Kankuro and Temari looked back and down at Ookami who's hands stopped glowing and Gaara was no longer bleeding.
"What?" Temari asked, watching as Ookami stood up.
"Get Gaara away now." She looked over her shoulder at Sasuke, her violet eyes dilated. "I'll deal with Sasuke."
