"Yo, you gettin' up here with us, right?", Taystee asked and I awkwardly looked about trying to find a sly way out of this conversation but I realized that wasn't happening so I just responded.

"Yeah, duh.", I said quickly. No. "I just don't wanna walk around in that itchy costume for longer then needed."

"Man.", Taystee said clicking her tongue. "First of all, you better have those sweet vocals of yours warmed up- and second, shit, this dress is the best damn thing I put on my body in years. Gives me a purpose."

I gave her a fist bump before she headed off. I guess we're cool now? Really I didn't have problems with anyone anymore, I've stayed clear of trouble lately and it seems to do me well.

I had to find a nice and quiet place to hide out until it was safe to get some fresh, cold, air outside. Maybe build a fucking snowman while I'm out there.

I headed to my bunk, grabbing my book I still hadn't finished and hiding out there for a while. I knew I'd let Maritza and Flaca down but, fuck, I don't care right now.

I don't want to sing up there anyways, I got nothing to prove and I don't need anyone's respect. I heard footsteps approaching my bunk and I got nervous, was it someone from the play coming to drag my ass over?

"What, didn't wanna be a Shepard?", a familiar voice said and I let out the biggest sigh of relief. It was just Dayanara. Me and her got close, she's still emotional as when I first met her but she's cool doesn't say much to anyone.

"Hell 'nah'.", I scoffed. "Got better things to do, like educate my brain.", I joked waving my book about.

"Maria's been bragging on that voice of yours. And she basically hates everything lately so that's saying something.", Daya chuckled and I patted the bed so she could sit.

"I don't feel bad about not going up there.", I shrugged. "I don't wanna be up there, I'm not gonna be. I was invited, not forced by a guard."

"True. You're doing okay, Alaniz. Only been here maybe two weeks, more(?), and already got a bit of people's respect.", she smiled to me. "I'm gonna try and sleep before everyone comes in like a heard of animals, see you tomorrow."

She patted my leg before getting up and heading to her bunk, I waited until I figured she was laying down then headed down the hallways to the side yard exit.

I neared the door and I swear I could hear screaming- not regular screaming you'd hear in here but like a different scream. I then saw Mr Healy walk out from the doors I was just headed to.

I waited until he was gone to hurriedly jog to the doors and push one open, there I saw Chapman wailing down on a small red headed girl.  I think her name was Doggit?  I don't remember.

I stood there in horror, backing up against the brick wall behind me.  I couldn't hear any more muffled screams or even anyone's gasps besides Chapmans.

I bolted over, nearly slipping on ice, to tackle Chapman off of her.  I stood up as fast as possible, her face in tears and mine in pure shock.  I tripped and fell backwards, slipping on that ice from a second ago.

"Is she dead?", Chapman sobbed out.  I got off my ass, wet covering the back of my khakis and stood up.  I looked at the body next to Chapman, she looked pretty dead to me.

I ran to the doors, going the only place I knew I could.  I opened the door to electric and saw Luschek asleep at his desk, I didn't want to wake him but I was freaking out.

"Lu-Luschek.", I stuttered.  "Please wake up, it's Mariana!", I said starting to yell and get louder each second.

His chubby body shifted for a moment before I saw his blue eyes flutter open.  I started rambling, talking fast- so fast I couldn't understand myself at points, never mind someone who just woke up understanding me.

"Did I hear anything about weed in that dictionary of words?", he said in a groggy, sleepy voice.

I shook my head quickly.  "I-I, There's a- there's-", I was so worked up I couldn't speak anymore.  "Someone is dead!  Maybe- I think so, I don't know."

"That's...", he paused for a moment.  "That's definitely not weed."

I watched him stand up and embrace me in a hug- our first hug. I tugged and the back of his uniform, careful not to rip it, and put my face in the area between his neck and shoulder.

I may have just seen a dead body- I witnessed the fight and probably could've stopped it sooner, saved the girl maybe, have I had done so.

"I think I could've saved her- I don't know- I don't know if she's dead!", I said pushing away from Luschek. "I need to go look."

"You're not going to make me go with are you?", he groaned already knowing I would have to. I pulled his arm, not doing much to move him but he threw his head back and followed after.

I took him to where the bodies were, and they were gone. I started to question everything, was I losing my shit? "Nothing's here, but that cross is real intimidating.", Luschek spat out sarcastically and giving me jazz hands.

I ran over to pick it up, it was shaved like it was going to be used as a weapon. I tucked it away and rubbed my bare arms with my hands, not realizing how cold it actually was.

I didn't know this girl, she shouldn't mean anything to me. However, I knew Chapman and after how bitchy she's been to me lately maybe I'd have some dirt on her?

Saying she drug Doggits body away or something, I have evidence after all. "Hey, c'mon. Let's head back, you're shivering and frankly so am I.", Luschek said walking over to me and rubbing my arms with his hands a few times before, nicely, shoving me off towards electrical.

His hands felt so nice, not in a sexual way but in a comforting way. Something Donnie never gave me when I gave him everything.
