"we already fucked, might as well get attached.", i shrugged pacing the workshop. ive been here not even a month yet, and I already found someone I care about- and no, not just because we fucked.

"Shit, Maria.", I said facing the slightly taller woman. "Fuck that Christmas play, you pissed about it? You weren't even up there."
"I ain't pissed about that, pendeja. You got a fucking voice, hate to see that waste away in this hell hole.", she said patting my shoulder. "You need to get your shit together, you all over this damn place."
I groaned and walked away towards electrical, I sat in the back corner next to Murphy who got up to throw something away. "If you're back her to hunch off me you're in the wrong seat.", she said looking up at me with her eyes.
"You wish I was, I could have this damn lamp working in minutes.", I said bending my elbow on the desk and placing my chin in my palm. She shoved the lamp towards me.
"Have at it.", she smirked. I looked at her and rolled my eyes, feeling slightly embarrassed. I had no idea what the difference from a red wire and a goddamn twizzler is.
I sighed and sat upright, taking the cold metal standing bit of the lamp into my fingertips as I brought it closer to me.
I moved slowly, acting like I knew exactly what I didn't. I snipped wires, tied some together only resulting in small shocks vibrating through the tweezers I was using.
There were two wires left and I figured why the hell not connect those two together. I grabbed some electric tape, electricity in literally in the fucking name it has to work right?
I tore a skinny strip off with my teeth and taped the tips of the wires together. I held it tightly and nothing. "I could've had that running minutes ago.", Murphy scoffed taking the lamp.
As her hand touched the stand a shock, larger then the manageable ones, went through the cords and onto my hand sending me off the stool and to the ground.
It didn't hurt for more then a second, when I got up off the ground everyone's eyes were already on me. I saw the lamp on the desk, the light flickering on and off and then all at once it stopped flashing- the light was on.
I let out a laugh, slowly standing up by leaning against the wall and pushing my weight upwards, and pointing at the thing laughing in a proud 'aha' kind of way.
"I did that!", I yelled excitedly jumping around in circles a few times before pointing back at the lamp- still on.
"Inmate.", Luschek said to me. I knew he was just being annoying. "Sit the fuck down would you?"
"This lamp isn't the only thing I can turn on.", I winked, in a joking way. I thrusted into the air and laughed as I tossed myself onto the stool, still proud of myself.
--- (time skip)
The job fair thing was starting, I was sat beside Maritza next to the isle. The woman was announcing everything but I wasn't paying attention.
Flaca walked on stage, as did the other women, and Maritza and I squealed. "Kill it!", I yelled.
Maritza hit me, "Don't say that, that's a sensitive thing for her."
"Please, her tall ass couldn't hear me when I'm next to her. Doubt she can hear me over these screams anyways.", I said and kept clapping until everyone stopped.
The woman loved Flacas outfit, didn't like her makeup but honestly I didn't either. Flaca and Taystee got to carry on later tonight but for now we were released.
"Alaniz.", Gloria called. I turned to face her with a smile, I've always liked Gloria- she knows her place and treats people right.
"Yeah, what's up.", I asked.
"Caputo wanted to see you, sounded pretty important.", she said patting my shoulder. I nodded and had to ask for help to find his office but eventually did.
I knocked on the door and heard fumbling with items before a 'come in' was heard. "You wanted me?", I said more as a question then a statement.
"Your being reassigned. The kitchens small in number of workers, I need you to step up and fill the missing job spot.", he said like it was nothing. I guess to him it really was nothing.
I can skip breakfast, lunch, or dinner to see Luschek- plus being able to just see him while 'working'. I'd never see him- while we might not officially be official I really do care about him and want to hear his stupid offensive jokes daily.
"I'm sorry no, I like my job.", I said bluntly, standing up to leave.
"It's already been done.", he said leaning back in his chair. Glad he could relax, I'm freaking the fuck out on the inside.
"What?", I asked in a shaky gasping voice. "I fixed a lamp-", I shook my head knowing he didn't care about that, "I like this job come on, please don't change me."
"I already changed you, I'll see how you do the first few days and I'll move you if I need to.", he said. "Oh, before you go. Chapman is coming back, I expect nothing but perfect behavior when she's out."
