"could you guys please stop arguing? just for a few minutes, at least." my stepdad rubbed his temples, and took the plate of pancakes that i was holding out. "it's saturday, loosen up a little bit."
i looked back at jacob and arielle, who happened to be fighting over the last piece of turkey bacon. "that's what you're arguing over, you guys? turkey bacon?"
arielle and jacob glared at me.
i probably shouldn't have tried to put myself in the middle of their fight. nothing good ever happened when i tried to get them to make peace.
we were all the same age,and we had similar personalities, which was probably why we all bumped heads so much.
they were my mom's husband, jack's kids, and even though we had all been living together for a few years... they still weren't very fond of me.
i swiped the last piece of turkey bacon off of the spotless plate, and took a bite.
jack groaned, and turned to face his teenage twins. "let cami have the bacon, okay? she was nice enough to make breakfast for all of us."
jacob rolled his eyes, and got up from his chair. "whatever."
i cringed, poor jack really didn't have any control over his kids.
jack shot me a sad look, and took his sunglasses out of his pocket. "alright, get ready. we're picking the dolans up from the airport."
i picked the empty plates up from the table, and placed them in the dishwasher. "who?"
arielle tied her long hair into a sloppy bun, and sighed. "you really don't listen, do you? we've been talking about this for weeks."
i waited until jack turned around, and slowly gave arielle the finger.
jacob laughed, and arielle jabbed him in the ribs. "anyways, they were our neighbors for most of our lives. we were best friends. they had to move to los angeles for a little bit, but they're moving back into their old house now." she pointed at the window, and patted the front of her hair. "hence the moving trucks."
i opened my mouth to say something, but jacob cut me off. "you can come if you want, camila. just... try your hardest to look ugly, please. all of my friends are obsessed with you, and it grosses me out."
arielle folded her arms, and got up from the table. "your friends think that i'm cute too, right?"
jacob squinted, and stuck his earbuds in his ears.
jack coughed awkwardly, and scratched his head. "uh, alright, we're going to have to take two cars. i'll take sean and lisa, you guys can take grayson and ethan."
arielle snatched her keys off of the counter, and swung the door open. "come on, idiots."
"there they are," arielle sighed dreamily.
i looked to the right, and followed arielle's gaze. the two boys were standing with their parents and older sister.
one of the boys had dark hair, and wore a tight t-shirt. he looked sporty, i couldn't tell if it was because of the way he looked or the way he dressed. the other boy had lighter and longer hair, and he seemed to be wearing a space camp sweatshirt.
space camp.
i never did get to go to space camp.
thanks mom.
each boy carried themselves differently. the dark haired boy had a permanent smirk on his face, like he knew exactly how hot he was. he stood up straight, and moved around a lot.
the light haired boy was still taller, but he slouched a little bit. his cheeks were rosy, and his eyes were glued to his shoes. he was just as hot as his brother, but he definitely didn't know it.
jacob coughed, and snapped at the both of us. "are you guys done staring at my friends? dad already got sean and lisa into his car, hurry it up."
i took off my seatbelt, and opened up my door. i made sure that i was the last person to get out of the car, since i didn't even know these boys.
i watched as arielle and jacob reunited with their friends, and smiled to myself. it was kind of weird to see arielle and jacob so happy, since they were usually so moody.
"who's that?" a deep voice snapped me out of my thoughts. everybody had turned their attention to me.
arielle rolled her eyes, and jack motioned for me to come over. "ethan... grayson... meet my baby stepsister, camila."
i made my way over to everybody, and sighed. "i'm literally a few months younger than you guys, jacob." i gave both of the boys a tiny smile, and waved. "hi, it's nice to meet you."
the boy that i assumed was ethan, gave me a sneaky smile. "you have a pretty sister, arielle has some serious competition. come here, camila."
he wrapped his arms around me, and i couldn't help but blush. "uh, thank you. you're pretty, too."
really, camila? pretty?
i groaned internally.
jacob separated us, and shook his head. "jeez, ethan. that's my step sister, calm down."
i fluffed my hair, and made accidental eye contact with grayson.
at least i think that's grayson...
he kept his eyes on the floor. "it's nice to meet you, camila."
grayson was so shy, i found it really cute for some reason.
"it's nice to–"
arielle cleared her throat, and flipped her hair. "jacob, help the boys with their bags. this is going to be so much fun."
