"I can't be no superman, but for you I'll be superhuman"
When Madison heard those words, she instantly froze.
-" What?" Madison said shakily.
Rob started repeating "I said that Marilyn..."
-" I understood that pouty boy!" Madison exclaimed." Where is she?"
-" In one of the rooves of the dorms at the West side" Rob replied.
-" And where's that side? I've been here only two days!" Madison said clearly exasperated.
Rob sighed " Just follow me." Madison followed inmediately leaving a shocked crowd behind. Inmediately remembering the sight he saw before shouting the news he stopped abruptly.
-" Louise is alive right?" Rob asked.
-" I don't know." Madison said turning around to check. Louise looked like a bloody corpse, but when she shook her head a little, Madison just shrugged and kept running.
When Madison and Rob reached the roof where Marilyn was in, they saw her looking at the ground she would be falling in, and people was expecting some kind of action to happen. When Rob localized his brother, he ran to him.
-" She's still hesitating?" Rob forced a little worriedness. He was a bad actor you could say when it came to worrying about Marilyn's well being.
-" Yeah, but she started to take some impulse 2 minutes ago." Josh replied " You're Madison right?"
-" Yeah, whatever." She dismissed him. "Marilyn, get down here!" she shouted.
-" Okay" Marilyn replied walking to the edge. Everybody started screaming.
-" No dumbo, down the stairs!" Madison face palmed herself.
-" No way! I-I'm ending this now." And she started walking backwards to take the final impulse.
-" No! now she's really doing it. Run Madison, just climb straight the stairs and open the door at the end." Josh said worriedly. He knew it was a act, but Marilyn sometimes was clumsy, and if she really fell he would be in deep shit with himself and the headmaster.
Madison ran faster than a runner would race in a marathon and with more adrenaline than a kid playing around. She quickly opened the door, and when she saw Marilyn with her arms wide open to fall, she grabbed her by the waist and pulled her on the ground. Marilyn kicked and fighted, but in the inside she was grateful her statement about "Madison not being heartless" was true.
-" What the hell were you thinking about?!" Madison shouted.
-" I just couldn't stand all of this anymore." Marilyn recited her little script.
-" What 'this' means?"
-" Everything. Don't you know how hard my life is? I don't have friends, I've been titled as "teacher's pet" and "most boring person" 2 years in a row in the yearbook, I'm just valued to be the little assistant to twin brothers, where one always finds a way to bully me and the other doesn't notice my feelings for him. And when I thought that with a nice attitude I could befriend the new girl, she just slams the door in my face, calls me pathetic and plans on killing me if I keep trying to make her feel welcome. I could just go back home, but it's too far and I can't leave until grad day, so my other way is to just plan to fly but instead fall to the hard ground." Marilyn said on full sobbing. The first part was fake, the middle was the complete thruth, and the end was partially true.
Madison was loss at words. She would consider Marilyn the most annoying person in the world and the girl who deserved a voddoo doll with a massive needle on the little sewed heart; But hearing her confession made her realize they were so alike: They were outcasts in the world for no reason, and even if they tried to belong, people would just keep pushing them away.
-" I'm sorry." Madison mumbled.
-" What?" Marilyn asked surprised. The moment she saw Madison's attitude for the first time she knew she wasn't one to apologize or being kind.
-" I said I'm sorry. I always expect the worst of people so I just push them away with rude words. You gotta do something life changing to make a softie."
-" Has someone did that before? do something life changing?"
-" My 3 best friends. They saved me from a huge fight that almost made me go to a hospital and correctional school." Madison said with a little smile.
-"Are you really that violent?" Marilyn said a little surprised.
-" Yep, that's me" Madison said laying on the roof floor.
-" Have you always been like that?" Marilyn asked softly.
-"No, but let's not get there. I'm getting softie with you but we're not intimate friends" Madison said getting a little back to her usual self.
-" Ok ok, but last question: Did I made something life changing now?"
Madison thought about it a little. When she saw the scared girl with glasses threatening to end it all, she felt like she had to be a guardian angel for someone just once. All her life she was plain selfish: She didn't had to share anything at home, and when the broken her was born she just cared about her pain. She didn't cared how her dad was dealing with her mom's death, if there was traces of guilt on her ex best friend and her ex boyfriend when they forgot about her, from her new group of friends she was the least reliable to get help -unless it involved physical fighting-, and she never cared the physical and\or emotional pain her victims suffered when she fought them.
She promised herself a new start: To make some friends and be a better person. And if helping a girl to feel better and keep her life help that promise be solid, then she would give it a shot.
-" Yes." Madison replied.
Marilyn had her eyes wide open, and hugged Madison. At first Madison got a little uncomfortable -since she wasn't a affectionate person- but then went with the flow.
-" Sorry for that. It's just that got me by surprise. It's the nicest thing you've ever said to me." Marilyn said after she pulled away.
-" It's ok,just don't do it frequently. And don't do something stupid like jumping off of a roof ever again, okay?"
-" Okay" Marilyn promised.
-" So, you like a boy? One of the twins right?" Madison said trying to picture again the fraternal twins that she met a while ago.
-" Yeah, but I'm just his helper in the student council." Marilyn said sadly. "But let's skip that and let's try to know each other." she said nervously.
-" That sounds nice." Madison replied with a genuine smile, a smile she didn't let out since centuries.
But all that happiness had to go away with Rob suddenly appearing in the roof with his second big news of the day.
-" You two,to the office now. You're in deep shit with the headmaster."
