"Thou sword of truth, fly swift and sure, that evil die and good endure." - Flora, Sleeping Beauty

***

Once upon a time, in the heart of Prague, lived a young man named Dano. Dano worked at a fencing school in the city and was admired and loved by all who had the pleasure to know him. He was an average man, fresh out of Charles University and looking for a job as a teacher in one of the many schools in his city.

He was a quiet person; always a wallflower at social events but once spoken to, very friendly. He always had a smile on his face and a helping hand to lend.

Dano was single and happy. Well...almost happy. He was head over heels for his next door neighbor, Eleanor. They had known each other for quite some time, they would talk occasionally, most of the affection came from Dano admiring Eleanor from afar. She was the Persephone to his Hades.

And lucky for him, she was going to be at the Teacher's Charity banquet that evening at the Municipal House. This was not only the chance for Dano to land a job by conversing with the best of the best in the Czech education system but to finally tell Eleanor that he had fallen for her. He had no idea how to, he had never done it before, but he absolutely had to.

He decided it would be best if he called his best friend, Stefana, for help. She would also be at the banquet. So he called her.

"Ahoj?" she answered.

"Stefana! I need your help!"

"What's wrong?" Dano began telling her of his plan. He told her of some of the ideas he had; writing a poem, asking her out whilst dancing, sending her a drink from across the room. As he continued to gush and prepare for this big announcement of his, Stefana listened quietly and angrily on the other end.

Secret to Dano, Stefana was in love with him, not the flowery and pure kind of love that one would expect. Oh no, she was almost obsessed with him, very possessive and dangerously attached. She wanted him all to herself and would stop at absolutely nothing to have him. But first, she had to fight off any potential threat.

"Are you sure you want to do this? What if she doesn't like you back?"

"I have to do this. I can't think of a better time to do this," Dano sighed from the other end. He really wanted to do this, and he really wanted Stefana's support. Little did he know, he wasn't getting it. At all.

"But thought this was supposed to be our evening! You have been so busy lately and have blowing me off. You promised," Stefana whined. Dano knew she was right: he hadn't been fair to her of late and he did promise that they would spend the banquet together.

"I know, but this is incredibly important. Once it's done we can have another evening-"

"No, we can't! Once you start seeing her you'll forget about me completely! You'll only have time for her and zero time for your best friend, if that's what I even am anymore," Stefana thought that if she made him feel guilty that he would give up this crazy idea and spend the night with her. Unfortunately for her, Dano was insistent on going through with his plan.

"You know that will never happen, Stefana. I will always have time for you. Look, I have to go, I will see you tonight!" And with that he hung up and began preparing for the night ahead.
