As I made my way to the carIcouldn't stop thinking about what had happened. This guy played me, and it certainly felt unpleasant. Looking back he had finished his drink and walked away peacefully.
Spotting Franklin, my driver, in the car I instantaneously lowered my gaze. Sneaking a glance at me he greeted me and I did the same but I couldn't look at him. And as sensing my discomfort he opened the car door for me and started driving without saying a word.
Driving around town, many people walked by and some others just lingered around waiting for a cab or bus. Yet when my car passed by they would turn their heads, nevertheless snap them right back when they realized who it was. The person inside was no other than me, Bartholomew Versailles' stepdaughter.
Shaking my head I release a breath and look out the window. The city night was tranquil, cars passed by and the streets were empty. Many signs were half working and once in a while, you would see them flicker, and everything felt like a smooth chilly breeze frozen in time.
Breaking out of my reverie I hear Franklin's voice. "We're here." Looking up I nod. Seating properly I stare into the rearview mirror where Franklin's worried stare meets mine, and I just smile assuringly.
Parking the car I step out and look up to the barely lit apartment. Going up the set of stairs, Franklin stays behind and I'm left to deal with whatever may be waiting for me.
Walking into the apartment the light down the hall was lit. Bartholomew was home. Walking to my room I try and make no sound to avoid Bartholomew.
Stepping into the room a bouquet of gypsophilas laid on my bed. They were dazzling, yet their beautiful sight was no more than a dreadful reminder of what may come next.
Stripping down into nothing other than my bare body I walk into the shower where the water gazes my body with its hot and alleviating steam, but I can't control the hiss that scapes me when the water reaches my forearms. Holding in the stinging sensation I wash away my makeup and body.
Sitting on my bed with a towel wrapped around my nude body I hear a voice not so far away. "My dear Claude that's no way to come into the house," he says dissatisfied.
I turn my head sideways and find him sitting on the small sofa with a rum in hand.
"You should've greeted me before coming into your room," he says looking at me with an appetizing stare. I try to cover myself with the towel as discreetly as possible and turn my gaze somewhere else.
