Chapter 20: The backstory

The three of us started running into the woods to where we have to meet Alex and Tina.

"Come on this way" I leaded the way.

Pushing back the twigs and branches we reach to the river side.

"where are they?" Claire asks who finally let's go of Blake's hand.

"They should be here" I say in frustration.

"There!" Blake points.

We start running towards them.

Claire cups her mouth.

"Tina" she bent down to her to where she was laying.

I look accross seeing Alex was holding his head down to his knees.

I go closer to Tina to check her breathing.

"she's still breathing" I say quietly.

"But she's not waling up" Alex's head goes up slowly, with his eyes filled with sorrow as it reflected the moon.

"But that doesn't make any sense" Blake speaks up.

I crouch down with one of my hand touching the muddy ground.

Claire faces me.

"Both of you explain everything" she glares at me and Alex.

Alex sighs.

"After I started going against my dad I meet Antonio. He was one of my father's business partners. When I started to get to know him we both had the intention to corrupt My father's business. Thats when Project TO.AH sector 9 was born. It was to find a way that humans will be evolved to something new, something that gives us different abilities. Ofcourse it was to take down my dad's business" Alex started off.

"But Antonio changed over time, he got obsessed with the project, it wasnt like the death of his father made it any better" I continue as I give a eye to Alex.

"Why does everything thing I killed Harbin?" Alex groans.

"Then what exactly did happen?" Claire interrupts.

"I was coming to deliver something to Mr.Harbin, but I came in bad timing" Alex continued off.

I Knock on the but deciding to let myself in.

"Mr.Harbin?, I got some documents that my dad left for you" I peek through the door.

"Mr.Harbin?" I close the door letting myself in the dark room.

"Why is there no lights here" I say before turning on the lights.

"Mr.harbin?" This time I said it more shocked. I rush to him.

His body wasn't moving, as it lasted still on the floor. Stab wounds were covered all over him. I pick up the knife that was thrown next to him.

As I stood shocked there, the door suddenly open.

"Alex?" a familiar voice booms through my ears.

"Dad!" He suddenly Notice his father on the floor.

"Antonio I-" I was cut off when I tried myself to explaining myself.

His bloodshot eyes turns towards me.

"You did this?" His veins were shivering with anger.

#Flashback ended#

"so that's what happened?" Claire asked to Alex.

"and the project was?" Claire asks while she and Blake leans closer.

"its not something pretty" I scrunch my face.

"the whole idea was to give human special abilities that helps us to adapt to something we could not" Alex stated.

"What's so wrong with that? Your bot telling the full details" Blake makes an eye to Alex.

"We uses Genetically modified Genes to start off, ofcourse we couldn't exactly test them out on humans yet so we started with animals, that was basically the process for a while but I quit the project team after his father's death, I didn't wanted to continue it anymore, it was too much to weight down for me. But Antonio didn't take it easily, with countless fights he was still determined to find an answer on the project" Alex explained.

"But that's when he got little out of hand" I interrupted.

"He bought his father's bodies to test it out on, it then later on to buying more bodies that were on preserving fields. But he wanted more answers so he brings in people, mainly tourists aince it was easy to trick them" I explained.

"what did he do with them" Claire's eyes was filled with fright.

"We are talking about cutting there bodies up and taking organs out" Alex answered.

Both Claire and Blake were shocked.

"and we are gonna be one of his experiments if we don't stop him" I face them seriously.

"But how did he pull it off?" Claire asks with curiosity.

"he's filthy rich, you can basically get away with anything" Alex said with anger.

"But that doesn't explain why you backstabbing us" Alex starts glaring at me.

"I never back stabbed you guys" I sighed. "remember how we once met him in the coffee shop and train station?" they nod.

"well I thought it was nothing when I was walking back home. He appeared out of nowhere in an alley and threatened me to join him, ofcourse I said no but he threaten me that he will my family" I continued.

"But I realise that you guys are my family" I put my head down.

I failed them, I failed to be myself.

Claire comes toward me giving me a hug.

"We understand" she said softly.

"what are we gonna do now?" Blake asks.

"How about we give a little surprise to Antonio himself" I grin at Alex.

"I think it's about time" He gives me a devious smile back.
