Part 11: Confused heart, Broken leg

**THUMP**

My whole body hits the ground. Hard. I  hear a snap and a moment later a strike of pain shoots to my leg, through my body. I scream. My head has hit the ground pretty hard so everything I see is blurry. Including Rick.

"Oh my god! Annika!!"

He runs down the creaky deck stairs and kneels by my body. He holds my head in his hands.

"I'm so so sorry!"

"It-- It's fine."

I say, imitating my best smile. I don't want Rick to feel guilty at all. 

"I think I need to get to a hospital."

I say, looking down at my now broken leg. Another strike of pain. I clench my teeth.

"Don't worry."

Rick picks my whole body up. He holds me in his arms. I feel safe. I lay my head on his shoulder. I lift up my head to see Ben, Amy and Rob.

"Omg Annika! Are you ok? What happened?!"

I don't say anything back. My head really hurts and all I want to do right now is sleep.

"I think she broke her leg."

Rick replies with a worried face.

"How??"

Ben scowled at Rick. Rick just looked away.

"Well can Jeremy drive us?"

Ben sounds concerned. It's kind of cute to know that he is worried about me.

Could he like me?

I wonder.

No.. he has a girlfriend.

Wait..

Do I like him?

My head starts to hurt again. But I don't know if it is because of the accident or because of my brain trying to choose between Rick or Ben. I can't think about that right now. I can try but I don't know if it will be effective.

"Yeah, I'll get him."

Rob says running back up the deck stair and disappearing back inside. A few moments later Jeremy arrives outside his cabin with truck keys and a water bottle.

"Here, drink this."

He says, walking up to me and Rick and gesturing the water bottle to me. Rick takes it.

"Get in."

Jeremy hops into the driver seat of his white and blue ford truck. Rick opens the back door, giving me to Ben and scoots all the way to the other side.

"She has to lay down across the back seat."

"Yeah."

Rick replies. Ben and me lock eyes for a few seconds and everything seems to be perfect. He smiles that same smile. My head throbs.

He then puts me into the car, Rick taking my shoulders while Ben gets into the car and shuts the door. Ben takes my legs, laying them on his lap. Rick lays my head on his lap.

The hospital was sort of far away so the car ride was awkward considering there was no radio on, no one talking and Ben and Rick were both holding me in their laps.

"Are you ok Annika?"

Rick looks down and I look back up to meet his eyes.

"Yeah. I'll be fine."

The pain was tiring. I actually ended up falling asleep to the quiet rocking and rumbling of the truck for the rest of the ride.

"Annika.."

I slowly wake up to Bens voice. Rick, Rob, and Jeremy were standing around me.

     "We're here."

I was in the hospital bed.
