The doctors wouldn't let us in the room they ran her up too. You know, even though we're her family. Whatever! Elton and Aaron soon walked in, followed by Sam and Colby.
"Are you the parents of Rory?" A doctor asked as she walked up to Devyn and I.
"Yes." I answer her.
"Well you all can go in and see her now, but there are a few things we would like to discuss with you." She said to me, looking down at a clip board.
"What is it?" I ask her as the others walk into her room.
"Your daughter's nutrition levels are low. It's as if she hasn't digested any food in a long time. That was probably the main cause of her black-out state." She said, looking up at me with judge-mental eyes.
"I-I didn't know... She ate yesterday. We just adopted her yesterday, so we haven't really been there for most of her life." I told her honestly. She looks taken aback and goes on,
"She also has high exhaust levels. With how late it is, and you said that she was apparently sneaking back into your house, she might have a condition known as insomnia. It's where she's tired, but her brain won't rest. We can prescribe her medications to help her settle down and might get some sleep." She offered. I nodded and walked into the room she was in.
"What the doctor say?" Aaron asked me.
"They said her nutrition is low, she has insomnia, and she needs meds." I sighed, rubbing the back of my neck. I look over at her and see her eyes flutter open.
"Okay, ow." She said, rubbing at her head.
"I heard you hit your head pretty hard on the way down." Elton said to her. She finally came to her senses and started to look around.
"Why am I in a hospital?" She asked, looking down at the cannula that was attached to the IV bag. She looked scared. "W-what happened?! Why is this in my arm?! I hate hospitals, get me out, please!" She looked as if she was going to cry. Her emerald eyes glossy. Why is she freaking out?
"What's going on?" Aaron whispered, looking up at me worriedly.
"I don't know."
"Let me go! Please!" She sobbed. She was having some type of panic attack.
"Rory, you're going to be okay. We're all here for you." Sam said trying to calm her down, he grabbed onto her hand and rubbed his thumb over her knuckles. She took a deep breath in and closed her eyes.
"One, two, three, four..." She quietly counted to ten. After she got to ten she opened her eyes back up and looked over to me, "What happened?" She asked me.
"Doctors think that you might have passed out because your nutrition levels are low." I told her. She slips her hand away from Sam's and starts to play around with her thumbs.
"Oh." She says quietly.
"But that can't be true. Because I saw you eat yesterday." I sighed. She looks up at me,
"I um... I didn't really keep it in..." She said, her eyes glossy once again.
"What do you mean by that?" Aaron asked her, having the same questioning expression that the rest of us have.
"I made myself throw it back up..." She trails off as a tear slides down her cheek. Why would she do that? She's skinny enough as it is. Unless Colby's right, and she does have an eating disorder. I look over to Colby to see him looking at her-as if he might cry as well-and it looks like he knows what's coming. "I'm anorexic." She says.
"Why wouldn't you tell us?" Devyn says, hiding into my chest. I can hear her sniffle and know that she's probably crying too. I rub her back and feel my own tears fill my eyes.
"Because most of the foster homes I went to would just send me back after they figured it out." She says, barely above a whisper. This girl has been through so much already in her life. I'm never going to let her go. She will always be my kid. In this moment, I vow to never let this girl out of my life. "I have insomnia too..."
"The doctors told us about that one." I say, "We can get you meds to help you sleep though," I told her.
"Could we?" She asked hopefully.
"Of course."
