Lawrence

I was in a state of shock by what the black hair beauty before me had just said.

I had seen her from across the room by her raven tantalizing locks of hair, but those deep emerald eyes are what had stopped my heart and then they line up with mine as everything melted to nothingness.

She circled the dance floor, our eyes never leaving each other for a moment. She was beautiful in her forest silk gown as the silver metal strands on the line of her bodice shimmered in the light coming to stand before me.

"Lawny." That simple name had me floored, her eyes flickered as if on the verge of tears.

"Please tell me your really here and not a fragment of my imagination." I breathed slowly raising my hand to her cheek tenderly as she leaned her head into my palm down. Casting her long lashes down then back up to me with tears pooling in her eyes with a small smile.

"I'm really here Lawrence. I'm so happy you still remember me after all these years." She said grasping my wrist softly, her pale fingers moving over my hand on her cheek.

"I could never forget you Amelia. I never stopped looking for you. How are you here? Where have you been?" I said hastily looking over her features as I raised my other hand to her cheek, gazing into her eyes deeply.

"Evan found me in Europe huddled away in a farm house. They held me in a basement never seeing the light until he rescued me. The people that held me kept me weak by feeding me once a day chained to the wall with only a small wire bed and a hole for a bathroom. But I never lost faith that I would come back to you." She replied hearing the chime of the clock striking midnight as she lowered her head for me to unmask her slowly.

The masked falling away as another chim went. Stunned by her beauty and overwhelmed with longing. Slowly she glided her hands over my arms resting one on my cheek as one of mine wrapped around to the small of her back. "Lawrence my love just the thought of you kept me strong." She breathed feeling as if her hands were pulling me towards her till my lips were on her sweet red ones.

A chilling feeling took over me as if my body rejected the feeling of her lips moving against mine softly. I pushed the feeling away tightening my arm around her, relief that she was in my arms washed over me like a title wave. I had my Amelia back and I wasn't going to let anything take her away from me again.

Suddenly a screech sounded on the last chime of the clock threw the ballroom. Behind me as I pulled from Amelia's lips turning in the direction it came from. Guards were crowding around someone as the guest look frantically at each other in shock. I scanned the ballroom, my mind working in over time to find Melanie. Guilt flooding my veins with ice realizing what I had just done. I had kiss Amelia in front of everyone dreading the thought that Melanie had been watching unable to pick her out of the couple's on the dance floor that had now stalled in there steps.

Suddenly the guards parted in shouts as they rushed to a side door leaving the godfather that had been in the middle with a red angry face as his eyes turned to me sharply. "You will answer for your women trying to assassinate me!" He roared as all the colour drained out of me.

I looked back to the room frantically as my mind tried to process what he had just claimed. I turned to the door the guards had piled out of as I turned back to Amelia. I grasped her hand looking to her shocked and confused face, pulling her towards him as he eyed the women beside apprehensively. "Stay here with your grandfather. I'll be right back." I said as the godfather turned to me sharply by my statement but took off before he could question it.

Running into the hall the guards were no longer in site as I scanned its vacancy. My eyes catching a flash of metal and green on the floor coming to see the anklet I had bought Melanie, the chain snapped with the green stone partially cracked as if it was a bad omen. Bending on one knee I picked it up delicately in my fingers hoping it wasn't true as I shut my eyes. Pain seizing my heart. Clutching it into my hands tightly, I looked up to the entrance dashing thru the doors ripping my mask off as I heard a screech of tires taking off. The guards raised there guns but was to late, unable to see the vehicle getting away.
