Lawrence
The Doc and I had talked for what was an hour and checked out my hand chuckling because it was nothing. Seeing it was just a graze, like Melanie had said. He just cleaned it up and would heal in the next day or two. Finally I went to see how Melanie had checked out. All I could think about was her and what the Doc had revealed to me and if what he said was true. Even though it wasn't mush it still helped confirm somethings for me.
I walked through the halls until I found Ivory with a patient walking straight up to her. "Hey, where's Melanie?" I demanded seeming to startle her as she turned to me. I guess my voice reflected my mood, which was defiantly under the weather.
"Um... I left her about twenty or so minutes ago." She said looking to her watch then to me, realizing her mistake. "Lawrence I have patients, I'm sorry I couldn't watch her...." She rambled as I took off through the halls even more pissed than I was before.
So she ran, again!
I pulled out my cell phone and pressed call as I turned a corner. "How did everything go?" Kyle answered after the second ring.
"She ran off again. We need to find her NOW!" I bellowed scaring a nurse as I passed by towards the security office. I throw the door open, slamming it into the wall as guards shot out of their seats from in front of the security screens. They bowed as they said my name, knowing there place. "Rewind the tapes until I see the women I walked in with and follow her until you see where she went, NOW!" I roared with a threat vibrating in my voice. There were yes sirs as they scrambled to do as told. "Tell me the moment you know." I finished as I walked out to meet Kyle and Ace in the Lobby.
"Melanie you have tested my patients enough." I growled to myself with a deathly scowl.
Once I talked to Kyle and Ace we split up in different direction. Kyle to scan the whole hospital inside and Ace to scan the outside front and park. Mine to scan outside behind the Hospital and the harbor. I looked around for an half an hour or so, as I walked down a small concrete path to the edge of the ocean. I remember her saying she love the ocean hoping she would be on this path towards it. Right as the trees started to clear revealing the harbor, the security guard called telling me confirming my thoughts that she had exited the hospital towards the ocean when I spotted her setting on the edge overlooking the water.
"I found her." I told him and hung up knowing Ace and Kyle would be notified.
I could see she had taken off her shoes and stocking as she dangled her feet over the ledge as waves splashed over her small delicate feet. I was so mad at her that I wanted to run up and strangle her, but as I got closer I notice something was wrong. The air around me felt tense and as I looked at Melanie through her beautiful strawberry blond hair swaying in the wind, I could see tear trails running down her rose cheeks. But the look in her eyes, her eyes were no longer that vivid sparkling green, they were hollow and dull as she gazed over the ocean with an emptiness.
That look, I knew that look. It was how I looked at the world. Like it held nothing. But that was me, not Melanie. Why?... How could she have that look of desertedness. That detachment to the world, when she was every meaning to life.
She was so vivid and cheerful. She had that spark of energy, in every form, no matter her mood. She lit up every room just by walking in. So adorable with all her expressions of emotions you could read plainly. So delicate and gloriously vibrant. Everything I wasn't.
But right now, all of that was gone... replaced with a look of... of defeat... depletedness... numbness... Suddenly a look passed over her features as if she was debating in her mind. But what? She then looked down at the water and realization swelled through me as I watch a tear roll down her ivory skin, falling in the ocean as she slide off with it.
