8 | EVIL LAIRThat night, Valdís explained everything to Peter. Who she was, who her family was. She thought it was only fair. Soon after, she ended up going home. It wasn't worth going back to Liz's annoying party after such a stressful night.

Valdís rushed into Peter's classroom after she had gotten a text from him.
Peter: I found one of the weapons the guys from last night were selling. I'm in Robotics taking it apart now! So awesome! 😎
What the hell, Parker? Didn't one of those vaporize a person already? I'm on my way there now!
The teacher didn't even look up from his desk when Valdís busted into the classroom. So, she rolled with it and snuck to the back, where Peter stood, hammering the weapon. "Stop!" Valdís whisper-yelled, sticking out her hands.
Peter smiled cheekily at her. "I think it's power source." He told.
One of Peter's friends, Ned, walked up next to Peter, gazing down at the weapon. "Yeah, but it's connected to all those microprocessors. That's an inductive charging plate. That's what I use to charge my toothbrush." Ned explained.
Valdís looked at Peter worriedly. "He knows?" She asked.
"Not about you, but about me, yeah." Peter shrugged.
Ned looked at Val with amazed eyes. "You're Inferno aren't you?" Ned asked, nodding in approval.
Valdís smacked Peter's head. "You told him." She huffed.
Peter rubbed his head. "Hey! No, I didn't! He's just very observant. You do know you were on camera with me at the bank heist." Peter scoffed.
Valdís rolled her eyes. "Whoever is making these weapons is obviously combining isn't tech with ours." Peter told.
"That is literally the coolest sentence anyone has ever said. I just wanna thank you for letting me be apart of your journey, into this amazing—" Ned admired.
Peter hit the power source, that was a glowing purple orb, with a hammer, causing a ruckus of noise to occur. Valdís ducked behind the workstation before anyone could catch a glimpse of her skipping class. "Keep your fingers clear of the blades." The teacher announced, still not looking up from his desk.
As soon as the other students returned their focus to their projects, Valdís popped back up. "You think this is from Sokovia? Some even Chitauri material?" Val asked.
Peter shrugged. "I gotta figure out what this thing is and who makes it." Peter announced.
"We'll go to the lab after class and run some tests." Ned proposed.

After class, Valdís decided to attend her other classes— leaving Peter and Ned to run the tests of the glowy orb thing. However, when after school rolled around and Peter had informed her that he had put a tracker on one of the vendors they had seen the night of Liz's party, she ditched her after school activities to go to Peter's house.
Val knocked on the rickety door to his apartment, holding onto her bag quite tightly. The door swung open and revealed a pretty, tall middle-aged woman. "You must be Peter's friend Val, I'm his aunt." The woman greeted, pulling Val into a hug.
Val writhed under her touch, uncomfortably. Peter's aunt quickly led her to his room where Ned and Peter waited for her. "They're in Brooklyn." Peter informed, his eyes wide as he stared at the tracking device he had.
Val plopped herself on Peter's bed and stared at the device tracking the man. That three watched the device intently throughout the rest of the evening while eating junk food and giving each other updates every time the tracker moved. "They stopped." Ned announced finally.
"Maryland?" Peter asked as he peered at the hologram map.
"What's there?" Ned asked.
Peter shrugged as he hung upside down from the ceiling. "I don't know, evil lair?" Peter chuckled.
"Evil lair?" Ned inquired.
"Dude, gang with alien guns run by a guy with wings, yeah they have a lair." Peter scoffed.
Ned nodded in satisfaction. "Badass. But, how are you gonna get there if that's like, 300 miles away?" Ned inquired.
Valdís thought for a moment. "Academic Decathlon." She announced.
"It's not too far from D.C." Peter shrugged.
Val smirked. "Luckily, I didn't cancel because of my Stark Internship." Val mocked. Peter flushed.
