Seven friends

The seventh chapter:

Prequel

The seven of them kept running, even though they'd been running for hours. The forest was dense, and there seemed to be no end to it. Sua glanced back, her heart sinking as she realised the creatures were still chasing them. Somehow they'd outrun them this far. But it wasn't going to last.

'Look!' cried Dami, pointing at an old house that could be seen through the trees.

'Maybe we can hide in there!' yelled Siyeon, a half-conscious Yoohyeon holding her hand and stumbling along with her. Jiu nodded, and they all set off towards the house.

The seven of them ran in through the front door, shutting it and panting heavily. Jiu beckoned for them to follow her, and they ran down a dusty corridor. There were old black and white pictures all over the walls.

Suddenly, there was a bang coming from the entrance. Handong eyed Jiu fearfully, knowing that their attackers were closing in on them. They quickened their pace and soon found several rooms ahead of them. But then there was a resounding crash, and a swarm of hooded figure broke through the wall. And before anyone could stop her, Jiu ran into one of the rooms which was filled with mirrors and screamed loudly:

'Hey! Don't go after them! Chase me!'

'Jiu, no!' cried Handong, rushing after her. Sua followed her, panic flooding through her. The hooded figures heard Jiu and ran towards the room of mirrors. Jiu punched one in the face, but she was tired, and Sua knew she wouldn't last long. Ignoring her friends' cries, she pushed past Handong and into the swarm of attackers. She kicked and thrashed at them, attempting to get past into the room.

'Sua! Get out of here!' cried Jiu, as more creatures flooded into the room. Sua didn't move, trying to get to Jiu, to help her.

'Jiu—'

That was when Jiu shut the door, and the locked clicked, trapping her in the room with those creatures. Sua stood at the door helplessly, a numb horror washing over her.

'No!' screamed Gahyeon, banging on the door helplessly.

'There's more of them!' yelled Dami, grabbing Gahyeon and pulling her with her. Sua, Handong, Yoohyeon, and Siyeon followed her up the old broken staircase. The exit was blocked by the creatures, they had no choice but to go up. As Sua ran, she noticed Yoohyeon had blood on her face, just under her mouth. Her eyes were unfocused, and she looked dazed.

'Yoohyeon?' she asked uncertainly, 'Why are you covered in blood? What happened when you two got split up from the rest of us?'

'Don't ask questions, just keep running!' shouted Siyeon, pulling Yoohyeon along. Yoohyeon shook her head and continued running. Sua had a feeling that something had happened when Siyeon and Yoohyeon had got briefly separated from them. From the way Yoohyeon was clutching Siyeon's hand, she was sure it wasn't anything good. There were tears running down Siyeon's face, but there was a determined look in her eyes, so Sua stayed quiet and kept moving.

As they neared the top floor of the old house, more and more creatures chased after them. They were beginning to get separated, and soon Sua was next to Gahyeon, with a crowd of hooded figures in between them and the others. She watched helplessly as Dami and Handong darted down one corridor, and Yoohyeon and Siyeon were left fighting the ones in front of them. Gahyeon was trembling with fear beside her, tears running down her face.

'S-Sua we can't f-fight them,' stammered Gahyeon, and Sua knew she was right. But she couldn't let her friend die. She was older than Gahyeon, she had to protect her somehow. She thought desperately as the hooded figures closed in on them.
