Jacan's (POV)

"Can we talk? After dinner maybe?" Edward asked, grabbing my hand and leading me towards his office. I glanced at him in confusion. He had, not moments ago, been shaken up due to Alexios and he just wanted to put it off until after dinner?

"Edward? What's going on?" I asked instead of answering his question. He sighed and rubbed his forehead as we climbed the stairs. He didn't answer me as he continued to walk ahead of me his eyes forward. It worried me a bit. I know he accepted my apology but there was still something deep inside me that worried me that he might want to break up. "Edward," I called again a little desperate and he froze. I walked up to him and we both stood next to each other on the top step, our hands entwined. He refused to meet my eyes and just squeezed my hand tightly. "What's wrong? Are you okay?" I whispered. He blinked before looking back up at me. I could see confusion, desperation, and sadness in his eyes that made my heart heavy and I gripped the side of his face. I leaned in and gave him a kiss on the nose, forehead, eyelids, and cheek before rubbing my nose against his in a butterfly kiss. "It's okay," I murmured. He made a noise of distress and wrapped me in another tight hug.

I groaned and shook my head to clear my racing thoughts. I kicked a rock in my path and watched it as my legs carried me past its resting place. I was currently walking back towards my old home. I started this journey when I realized that Edward was not going to talk to me until he was ready, even though he said after dinner we would talk. Of course, it got on my nerves but I know that you can't rush these things. I know he would respect my decision not to talk too, so I didn't want to pressure him either. So, to resist temptation, I decided to leave as quickly as I could.

I was headed toward my old home because it had been a long time since I last saw Jessy. She also called me up about an hour ago and told me that she wanted to hang out, which if she was able to call me then it obviously meant my parents didn't mind. Since I could hardly see her and I missed her desperately, it helped to keep my mind off of whatever Edward was going through. I wasn't sure what Jessy's real intentions were, she just insisted that I had come get her. I hoped she was okay.

I turned the corner and felt an ache in my heart at the familiar sight. I listened to the chickens in the barn and felt myself smile as I remembered taking care of them. As much as I adored Edward and as much as I loved living with him, I desperately missed doing things like taking care of animals and planting crops. I wonder if I asked, would Edward give me a dog? Or maybe he would let me keep a garden? I complained about it while doing it but now, I would do anything to do it again.

I didn't get to think much of it as the door slammed open and small feet pattered out. "Jay-Jay!" My little sister called out. I grinned and stooped down. She ran straight into my arms and I picked her up, twirling us around as we both laughed in glee.

"Oh, I've missed you, Jessy," I told her, burying my nose in her hair. She laughed as it tickled her and wrapped her small arms together around my neck. She giggled as I spun around once more before placing her on the ground. I brushed her hair back to look at her. She was a little female version of me and the cutest thing in the world. Long brown hair and blue/green eyes that sparkled with happiness. She had grown at least a few more inches and had gotten a little skinnier as if my parents weren't feeding her. This made me want to frown but I didn't for her sake. Obviously, I had to think about whether she was eating, but if I showed such an expression right now she would only feel troubled. I had enough troubled people, this is time to be happy. She was wearing a pair of white leggings and a shirt with a giraffe on the front.

"How are you, sweetheart?" I murmured, sitting on the ground. She beamed and sat in front of me.

"I'm good!" I noticed her voice was a little deeper and I smiled. "I met new friends at school and this guy who likes to pull my pigtails." She furrowed her nose at this and I laughed. I flicked her nose and smiled.
