Ryder's POV

I woke up in the middle of the night to hear crying downstairs.

I looked to see Chase still asleep and decided to go downstairs by myself. I got up and went down. I saw my cousin and her husband. My cousin was crying while Daniel, her husband, comforted her.

I ran up to her. "Kayla? What's wrong?" I asked. I then looked around. "And where's mommy and daddy?" I asked. Kayla was still crying, so I hugged her and she calmed down some. Then Daniel picked me up and put me on the chair in front of her.

"Actually Ryder, there's something we need to tell you," said Daniel. "What?" I asked. Kayla looked at me with a sad face. "Ryder, sweetie, your parents got into a car accident," said Kayla carefully. "Oh no! They're okay right?" I asked. Kayla looked away.

"R-right?" I asked. I got scared. "Ryder... your parents... are dead," said Daniel. I gasped and got teary eyed.

"No they're not!! Mommy and daddy promised to never leave me!!" I said. "Well.... some promises can break," said Kayla. I just blinked at her. "I am so sorry Ryder," said Kayla. She reached in for a hug but I dodged it and ran upstairs to my room.

I opened my room door and slammed it close after coming in. I then ran to my bed and dived on it, burying my face in the pillow as the tears fell down my face.

"You guys promised! Why did you break your promise?!" I cried out. I then felt something nudge me. I stopped crying some. I looked and saw Chase looking at me, worried.

"Ryder, are you okay?" he asked. I shook my head no before grabbing him and hugging him. "Chase! It's horrible!" I said crying into his fur a bit. "What's horrible?" he asked. "Mommy and daddy are d-d-d-dead!!" I said before bawling again.

Chase tried his best to comfort me and I knew he was pretty sad also.

My cousin came in my room soon and she held me. She calmed me down and told me to be strong like my parents would want me to.

"Listen Ryder. I know it's hard to loose your parents but you still got Chase," she said. "Huh? What about you?" asked Chase. She sighed and smiled sadly at us.

"I'm afraid Daniel and I wouldn't be able to take care of you two so an orphanage is the only choice," she said.

I frowned. "Oh, okay," I said. "Try not to be sad you two. You know if I could take you in, I would," she said. Kayla pet Chase and kissed my forehead. "You two get some rest. We'll have something planned out by the morning," she said.

Kayla tucked me back into my bed and Chase laid next to me. She walked to the door. "Night you two," she said. "Night," we replied. She turned off the lights and left.

I sighed and turned on my side. I looked at the moon.

"I miss you already mommy and daddy. Nothing will be the same as it once was," I said softly.

A tear escapes my eye but I wiped it off and fell asleep.

-A few weeks later-

We had mommy and daddy funeral already.

Chase and I was soon put into an Orphanage just like what Kayla said.
