resurgent: part 1

TOBIAS

Tris is leading me threw a path. I recognize it as the dauntless compound. Every time I ask her where we are going, she laughs and tells me to come on. So I follow her not wanting to lose her. She is faster then me, which is odd, because she never was before.

before what?

"We're almost there!" she says. we continue to run, until she stops, and I stop to. we are in front of the control room where I worked before.

before what?

She presses her finger to her lips. I don't understand why, because there is no one around but I stay quiet. "listen." she says. at first, I don't hear anything. Then I hear a familiar voice and I know I hate the person it comes from before I know who it is. David.

"Bruce." he says "Inoculate yourself against the memory serum. Beatrice Prior is up to something, running around with he GD friends. We cant take any chances."

"What are you going to do?" ask a man with a strong, low voice. I assume he is Bruce.

"simple," David replies "I'm going to make sure she doesn't survive."

My heart beat is so fast I am afraid it is going to leave my chest. I try to grab Tris' hand to get her out of here but I cant reach her. I cant move. I cant speak. I cant save her.

David comes out of the control room. His smile is from one ear to the other. He looks at me, his smile getting wider.

"thank you," he says coldly "for delivering her here." he pulls out a gun and points it at Tris.

"Tobias." she crys out to me, but I cant get to her. "Tobias! Tobias! Tobias!"

Tris!" I yell back to her but she is moving further away and I cant reach her.

I wake up to Christina leaning over me. She smiles lightly and raises one eye brow as to ask "you okay?"

"hi." I say, still weary from sleep. "how did you get in here?"

"the door was open."

"oh."

Christina sits on the end of my bed.

she says "was it Tris?"

"what do you think?"

"what was she doing?"

I consider this for a moment, trying to make out if I should tell her. Tris led me to David. She does every night. But I never heard David say that before. inoculate yourself against the truth serum. Beatrice Prior is planning something. How did he know? I'm going to make sure she doesn't survive. I feel the anger rising up inside me. He killed her. He killed her. She is gone. Christina seems to decided I don't want to talk because she gets up and walks out of my room.

Two years. Two years since Tris was shot. For Two years I have gotten that same dream. For two years I have tried to find what it means.

I get out of bed and go out into the kitchen to see my mother and Christina exchanging conversation. I have a muffin. The thought of Tris stealing pieces of it comes to me. there are more on that tray behind you. I said to her. then you should be so worried about losing some of yours. I smile at the thought and eat my muffin, piece by piece like she did.

I hear Christina and Evelyn:

Evelyn says "I found an apartment today."

"That's good." says Christina nodding her head. she doesn't like Evelyn much, but she tries. I bet Tris would have tried.
