Chapter 1

The trees and the mountains alongside the road never looked this interesting. Or entertaining.

I was trying none too hard to maintain a disinterested, blank face to avoid looking in the eyes of the two men sitting across from me in the war-like car. They were doing quite the opposite.

Both of their eyes were hard upon me as we drove, hands casually resting on their guns. They didn't trust me. And they had every reason to. I wouldn't trust myself. Not with the history I was travelling with. The kills I took.

But I was here, in this car for a reason, after all. So they had to endure me for another two hours till we reached our destination.

I was honestly suprised they didn't blindfold me. The place we were going to was unknown for all the population of our country. Except for people like me. The assassins. Or saviours, if you like. It's the same. In this world, at least.

I crossed my legs and rested my arm on the window, their tense eyes following every movement.

Really, from the moment these two had dragged me out of the base camp three hours away under strict orders of bringing me to the general, they didn't let me out of their sight. Not even for toilet breaks. Apparently, I was a very precious carriage and they were my bodyguards. From what, I didn't know.

As I watched the landscape beyond, I noticed we were slowing down.

"Why are we stopping?" I said, looking at the two.

One of them, a blonde youngling, looked at me again. "To get fuel." He couldn't be more than twenty.

I saw this as a perfect opportunity to eat. I was starving.

"Can I get a snack?" I asked sweetly, pointing at the gas shop. "I'm famished."

They looked at each other and the older one nodded. I smiled to myself. As soon as we stopped, I got out of the car, headed towards the shop. I noticed that the blonde one was walking right behind me. I sighed.

"You seem like the nicer guy," I said sweetly, "can't you give me a moment alone even a few metres from the car? Where you can clearly see me?"

He just stared at me, waiting to move on. I sighed again, but turned back toward the shop.

I walked in and headed straight for the isles with food. My bodygyard stopped at the shop's entrance. I guess he wasn't really in a mood today to jump in if something bad happened to me, then. If he was, he would've trailed me like a dog, like his friend liked to. However, he didn't leave his hard eyes off me.

After I paid for my precious food, I made my way outside, smirking smugly at the blondie. "See? Nothing happened. Like the last time we stopped. This is getting ridiculous."

He just looked at me hard again and motioned me along.

"Don't you want something for yourself?" I paused. "You haven't eaten since we left, and that was a long while ago. You look like you could use some more strength to guard me, you know?"

I was messing about and he knew it. Still, he said, "Can't you for once shut up? Every few minutes, your mouth just opens and doesn't close. Just be quiet."

I smirked, having known I've won. We got back into the car where the older guard didn't look very happy with our time. Apparently, we held up the ride with our "little talk". This car and the other one were already fueled enough.
I just shrugged at the telling off and started eating the chocolate cookies that I bought. They were delicious.

...

The next two hours were a pain in the ass. Nobody was saying anything, the guards were still staring at me and I was bored to the bones. At least I got entertained by the magazine I bought. For a little while.
