「Chapter Eight」

She pulled a chair over to sit across from him. She ran a hand through (h/c) hair, showing obvious stress. She then looked up, locking eyes with him before speaking up.

"I'm going to explain some things to you, so please listen to me carefully." (l/n) waited for him to nod his head before continuing. "The Boss made it very clear. I told him that they really wanna get their hands on you, even if it's heavily implied that you're under our protection. So to assure your security, he wants us to pretend to date. Because if you're dating the daughter of the Boss of the Crows, it shows them just how close your bond is to us. Furthermore, it makes it easier for me to keep an eye on you. And if I can keep an eye on you, they have less opportunities to lay a hand on you."

"Why do they know who you are?" Sugawara spoke up softly, concern on his features. "Whenever you save me, you always have the black face mask, and your sunglasses. How could anyone know what you look like besides your gang?"

"Haven't you looked around? I'm sure you've noticed that the only people who show their faces are myself and my father. Didn't you notice how disrespectful they acted towards me in the elevator back there, yet my team treats me with respect? It's because the only people who know I'm directly involved with gang activity are my family and my team. No one else. Not anyone outside of the Crows. Not even my own gang." She let out a dry chuckle. "Everyone only knows me as the heiress to the Crows, because the only people who show their faces are Bosses' and their families. Especially the Bosses' of big gangs. It's a matter of pride. Showing off your gang, your face, your beautiful family shows your status to every other gang. But to the public, we're just large companies. And we are. Large mafia companies."

She sighed, pushing her glasses up on her head, leaning back into her chair as she crossed her arms. She closed her eyes, eyebrows furrowing.

But Sugawara still thought she looked beautiful.

"Mafia kids don't always get involved, specifically kids of Miyagi gangsters. Once again, getting involved is dangerous, and they're innocent. Just because you're the kid of a criminal doesn't immediately make you a criminal. Most kids don't know their parents are even involved in this, unless they're the child of a boss or some kind of other high status member. Even then, most don't get involved." She opened her eyes, but kept all her emotions hidden. "But I got involved. At first without my parents' permission." She let out another forced laugh, shaking her head, as she stood up again.

She paced around the room, eyes glancing over at everything. From the picture to the map of Japan to Sugawara. He tried not to flinch under her stare, and it caused a small smile to pull at the corner of her lips.

"I knew that the gang was struggling, so I joined when I was in Junior High, but I pretended that I'd just graduated High School. It only worked because no one asks questions. When my parents found out, they were livid, but the Boss let me stay. Because in a short time, I'd become one of the best of the best alongside my team who knew from the start. They're all a few years older than me. But enough about me." She shook her head, relaxing her posture ever so slightly. "Tell me about you. After all, how am I supposed to pretend to date you if I don't know you as well I should? As far as I know, you attract trouble more than I ever have," she hummed, a light smile on her face, as her stance relaxed.

"Well, uh. I'm just a regular kid who likes to play volleyball. I'm the Vice Captain and a setter, but this year I was replaced by our genius first year in the starting lineup. And speaking of first years, they're quite rowdy this year. When all of them are together they're worse than Tanaka and Nishinoya." Sugawara couldn't help but laugh. Had he been paying closer attention, he would notice her smile grow just the slightest bit bigger. "Even though it does make me a little sad to have been replaced, I really don't mind it."
