「Chapter Nine」

Throughout the night, Karasuno students kept their eyes trained on the two, watching Sugawara order their food.

They both ate together, chatting quietly to each other. Many had stopped eating themselves, too enraptured by the couple's interactions. They would all make noises of approval whenever they did something cute. Whether it was Sugawara dabbing at her mouth with a napkin, or (l/n) pouring more tea, anything remotely couple like would stir up loud reactions. Then, when he showed he was going to pay the bill, at least one girl had fainted.

But of course what had shocked everyone was when the VP called him 'babe.' They had never expected such a typically cold person to use any sort of term of endearment. But when it had slipped from her lips so casually, the students there were pretty sure they were just as red as Sugawara. They thought it was quite adorable.

The next day, Sugawara did his best to ignore the pats on the back from his teammates, and focused on answering their concerned questions instead. He would always avoid the subject of his girlfriend in fear of one of them recognizing that their relationship was a fraud.

However when she appeared some time into their practice, peeking inside, he knew he didn't have to worry about telling them anything. If he could show them with actions as opposed to words, he knew he could convince them. When Ukai wasn't looking, he slipped away from the rest of the team, going over to the girl standing in the doorway. He greeted her with a soft smile, and she returned it.

"What are you doing here? Is there a problem?" He whispered to her, smiling despite the actual concern he had. "Did anything happen?"

"It's not really that convincing if I show up to school early, but don't come to greet you briefly. How is practice this morning? Are you working hard?" She asked, although she was also whispering. "I've heard you've been focusing more, so please continue to work hard. I'd like to see you all go far in the upcoming tournament. From what I've heard, it's always been your team's goal to make it to nationals as the school did once before. I hope you'll make it." She grinned, leaning up onto the tip of her toes pressing a chaste kiss to his cheek before leaving.

"Suga-san, please don't let your girlfriend distract you from practice," Ukai scolded, causing the third year to straighten up.

He turned around to see the majority of his teammates giving him smug smiles, some pretending to kiss each other on the cheek. Tanaka had the audacity to crouch down and give Nishinoya a kiss on the cheek before the two of them danced around, laughing at their Vice Captain.

"Suga and (l/n) sitting in a tree-!" Some had began, but Sawamura immediately turned towards them.

"Shut up! Focus!" He growled, before giving Sugawara a wink.

And though the relationship was fake, Sugawara wanted the earth to swallow him whole to ignore the antics of his teammates.

However, it only worsened in class, when he found Sato sitting in his seat. (l/n) was glaring at her former seatmate, hands splayed on the desk. Her glare was murderous, before she sent a soft smile to Sugawara.

"Suga-san! You should sit beside your girlfriend! She's got a sweet tooth and I think she needs her fill!" Sato cried out, causing some of the students to giggle, however they stopped under the cold glare of the VP, who proceeded to lean down after silencing them.

"Speak again, and I will have your teeth on a necklace," (l/n) whispered, giving Sato a dark look, before walking to the front. "Don't make a big deal of our relationship. A lot of things annoy me, but blowing my relationship out of proportions is quite high on that list." She spoke up, tight smile on her lips, before returning to her desk.
