I exit the house in a hurry, passing a surprised Keppler and cross the street to Green Park. With too long strides for a gentle woman, I draw the attention from the few promenaders who already stroll the park. It is still unfashionably early for the gentry and the park is very quiet. I sit down at the bank of a little pond to catch my breath and observe the glide of the swans. The graceful birds soothe my agitated mind. That was quite the speach and it left me speachless.

I ponder the duke's declaration. Not what he said drove me away as I've grown accustomed to some vulgar vocabulary in the presence of sailors and his houshold staff. It was the timbre of his dirty talk that got to me. The fiery intensity of his voice stirred an excitement so intense, that my own reaction frightens me as much as it intrigues me. He is experienced in a field where I am not and the promise to learn from him draws me as much as the promise to explore this ancient book of love. He mentioned the moth and the flame but in the wrong roles: I'm the moth and he's the flame and our union will result in my destruction. I know it but, nevertheless, I'm unable to walk away, although thats what I undoubtedly should do.

Benjamin, the footman approaches me curiously. „Miss Bentley, His Grace wishes your presence in his study."

I rise and shake out the wrinkles of my simple black dress. Benjamin waits patiently and accompanies me back. He ask cautiously: „Keppler was concerned about your hasty retreat from the library. Is there something he could help with?" I smile „No, Benjamin. It's this translation that irks me. Its subject is not my strength and I am often at a loss for a word."

„But his Grace was quite amused, I hear?"

„Yes, he teased me about my limited vocabulary on the subject and that fueled my frustration. But he helped me a great deal as well" I add.

„What is the subject of the book, if I may ask?"

I hesitate. I usually don't prevaricate but the topic is too delicate for potential gossip. So I answer vaguely  „Human interaction between noblepeople in India."
