I yawned, falling along my old twin sized bed. Looking around my room at my typical teenage girl posters. A giant picture of Johnny Depp, a Marvel poster and of course, The Nightmare Before Christmas. I sighed, pulling my soft fleece blanket over my face, groaning. I couldn't believe I was home. I'm not sure I'll ever go back to California, but getting away right now sounded nice. My mom came in, handing me a couple movies. She hands me Sherlock Holmes, Heart and Souls and Gothika. I glared at her and she only chuckled.
"Maybe you can see the good side in this?" I had already told her mostly everything. However, it took her about a week to get it out of me.
"What's the good side?" I ask her, my eyes drooping.
"He looks much better in the movies." She set them on my bed with a smile. She wasn't right though. He was always beautiful. I groaned, looking outside into the cold spring air that was Minnesota. I decided to head to my favorite coffee shop, called "The Garden" a very remote and hipster place in my hometown. I long boarded all the way there, stepping in and having everyone one once agan shout,
"Andie!" I was well known in the coffee shop community. But tonight, I felt like tea.
"Just jasmine please. Thank you Judy." I say to her, scrunching my nose. She simply asks,
"One tea bag or two?"
"You know me so well. I'll have two today." I say with a wide grin.
"What brings you back home?" She asks, pouring hot water into my cup. I shrug and grab my board, throwing it up gently onto the counter.
"Just visiting." I say, truly unsure of what I wanted. What would I do here in Minnesota with my career? Stage make-up? It wouldn't pay like Hollywood does.
"Taking a break from Iron Man?" She asks.
"How did you-" She cut me off by pointing her finger passed me, I whip around seeing Meryl, my old boyfriend who I actually remained very close friends with. I run up to him and hug him so tight, I almost want to cry when I see him.
"I haven't seen you in years!" I say into his shoulder. He rubs my back and laughs. He was a dirty looking punk rocker. Always wearing jean vests, fedoras and sporting a guitar strapped to his back.
"Yeah, I'll admitt it's been a while. Glad you kept in touch though." He says, smiling.
"Well yeah."
"So, why're you here? Did Iron Man take a break from his busy schedule?" He asked, nuding me jokingly.
"Kind of." I sayed, rushing to change subject.
"How's Joan?"
We begin talking about his fiance, and four cups of coffee and three cups of tea later, we finally head out and he offers me a ride home.
"Would you like to come in? My parents probably miss you." I say with a small chuckle.
"You know? I'd like that." He says, shutting off his car and following me into my house.
"Mom?!" I shout, no answer.
"...Dad?" I ask a little more quietly, no answer. I rush into the living room and there are my parents, with Robert, silent on front of the fire.
"Why didn't anyone tell me how cold it was going to be up here?" Robert joked, the tension in the air looming thick. I stayed silent and Meryl didn't speak, just stared at Robert in awe.
"Dude...you're..." He started but Rob just spread his arms and shrugged.
"Yupp, and you are?" He asked, seeming irritated. Which ultimately upset me. I push Meryl behind me and speak his name for him,
"This is Meryl."
"Right.." Robert says, striding toward us, but he continues passed us, heading toward the door. I roll my eyes as he steps out, looking back at my mom and dad.
"He wanted to see you?" My dad asked, completely confused. He didn't know anything. The only people who knew was Tommy, Robert and my mom.
"Mom, dad, could you keep Meryl entertained for just one second?" My mother nods and my dad stutters, still confused. I thank them silently as Meryl sits beside the fire, looking at me just as confused as my father.
"Rob." I say, coming outside. He was just facing his car door, down passed the porch. He didn't turn to me.
"Meryls a really close friend of mine, we met up for coffee and of course I boarded up there, so he drove me home. Thought he'd want to see my parents because it's been a while. He's engaged." He just shook his head.
"That's not why I left." He muttered.
"Well, what was with the scene?"
"Your mom doesn't appreciate me coming here." He whispers.
He finally approached me, putting his arm behind my back and pulling me close into him. My face flushed and the butterflies grew in my stomach. He was making me uncomfortable. He was making me emotional. I don't know if I liked it.
"But I needed to come here." He whispers, leaning downward to kiss me. I put my fingers in between our lips and sigh.
"Susan?"
"I chose you."
I felt stunned, what did he mean by "chose me?" He let go of me and held up a flyer.
"I grabbed this one my way into town. Wizard of Oz at the middle school. Wanna go?" He asked me, was this a date? No, him and I aren't like that. And if so, this is a silly date. But, cute.
"It starts at 8 which is like...20 minutes so, yes? No?" He asked, quite seriously.
"Sure, just let me tell my-" I look back at the house. This was something to explain later to mom, maybe when I fully understood it.
"Actually, let's just go." I said to him, pulling up the the passenger door of his car. Before he drags himself over to the drivers side he grabs me hard, his palm cupping my face so hard it almost pinches my skin. His other hand roaming along my back, he pushes me up against the car and presses his groin into me as he kisses me hard on the lips. His lips were moist, wet with desire, as if he had been saving every ounce of saliva just to put it back into my mouth. Our tongues danced together wildly, soothing each others with it's presence. My mind went black from the enjoyment I was recieving and when he finally pulled away he said to me,
"Come home. I want you home."
It won't be this easy, Robert.
